I did not see a thread like this. So, if you are a Russian speaker (from former USSR or Russia), where have you applied, what are your top choices, and where have you been accepted?

Ok, I'll be the first to spill the beans XD
I applied to (prepare for a long list):
Amherst
Middlebury - top choice
Swarthmore
Columbia (reach of reaches) - and top choiceXD
Upenn - top choice
Brown
Dartmouth
Smith
Wellesley - top choice
Bryn Mawr - nearly top choice
Bard
Bucknell
Grinnell - nearly top choice
Oberlin
C of Wooster (safety of safeties)
Vassar
Carleton
Trinity (college, not uni)
Bowdoin
Williams - top choice
Tufts
That's it:)

Wow! You have applied to a lot of the same schools as I did!

Amherst
Brown
Dartmouth
Wellesley
Oberlin
Vassar
Williams
Tufts

Of course, I did not hear from any of those yet. I have heard from a couple of other colleges:
rejected from UChicago, Brandeis (ha! I would never go there anyway),
deffered at WashU,
accepted at Mount Holyoke, University of Richmond, Washington and Lee.

Did you hear back from any of yours?

Spilling the beans further:
Oberlin - rejected (which is ironic, since it was supposed to be a 'safety'. oh well)
accepted so far to Grinnell (best bet at the moment, if only it was less rural....), Bucknell, Smith, Bard, C of Wooster (safety of safeties:)), Bryn Mawr
ps where're you from? I hope it's not Russia, I don't want competition XD

No, I am not from Russia :) No competition! :)
I know someone who is in Grinnell right now, and she likes it (went for swimming)
I have heard good things about Bard.
And I also just got rejected from Duke... But I knew that was coming.

Just wondering, did you apply for fin. aid? Did you get what you need from the ones that accepted?
I know that fin.aid need is a big factor in admissions of intenrationals, so that might be the reason behind the Oberlin rejection. The same thing happened to me with Brandeis - I am the top candidate from my school, but I get rejected while others are accepted :)

Yeah, I need FA. Bucknell turned out to be a little stingy, C of W offered very little - everything else is fine (when I say 'fine' I make a fece -- refer to http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/664192-parents-just-announced-divorce-what-do.html)

Btw congrats!!! Wash&Lee and Mt Holyoke are awesome!:)

I don't know why my previous post looks that way and what does 'xxxx (mwl - 2.19.2009) --> ' mean and why 'parents announced divorce' is at the top, sorry. Can't fix it.

Oh. It looks fine suddenly:)

Oh, I got the link. I am very sorry for your position.
Thanks, I am still uncertain of where I am going though. Right now, its a tie between Mount Holyoke and Richmond... Richmond winning :) I need so talk to some current students or something to decide.

Hi guys :) I'm from Azerbaijan. Helen, where are you from?

As in regards to colleges, got in Furman and Northwestern, waiting for the rest. Good luck!

Wow, congratulations! I got rejected by Northwestern :(
I'm from Moldova :)

Ahh I’m sorry to hear that… Financial aid? I am pretty sure you have already/will got in a plenty of good schools. By the way, there was another Russian on these boards - Elvy. So where are guys thinking of going? We might end up all in the same place, after all! :)

Alone, congrats on Northwestern - it’s great!!
Btw Elvy is going to Bucknell! It’s awesome cause she wanted it badly and they offered her just enough aid! Awesome, huh? XD

Hi! Sorry to hear about the divorce - hope you are doing well. Thank you! Did you get Amherst decision? I got waitlisted. Don’t know what to feel And awesome for Elvy!

Are Amherst desicions on-line???

I am still waiting to hear from everyone.
However, U of Richmond and Mount Holyoke are top candidates - they both gave me a full ride too :)

Alone, well, at least you have some kind of chance. I’m a reject! Reject and proud jk. I believe that was tough.

Good job guys! I got an email from Amherst, Helen. It really was tough, and I think it’s not my academic profile, but my nationality that got me on waitlist… Most of the people didn’t even hear about the Azerbaijan before I applied, and we have only about 2-3 students in top 20 schools, so maybe I am supposed to contribute more from diversity coming from small unknown country, lol… No worries guys, you are all awesome applicants.

Yeah…we desperately need someone to appreciate our awesomeness XD
