Hi there! Has anyone lived in BEST Hall in the past or known someone who has? If so, did you/they like it or would it have been better to have lived in a more traditional dorm for freshman year?
My son is on his second year there as a junior. He’ll stay there for senior year, too. He would have been very happy to live there freshman year, as well, but that didn’t work out. It’s a beautiful set of newer buildings, convenient to most of his classes (math and CS major). No real disadvantage. Lots of activities. It was always his first choice.
I’m a current BEST resident. BEST has its perks and its pitfalls. The perks being that the buildings are new, the rooms have hardwood floors, and that the rooms are twice as big as other dorm rooms. In addition, BEST basically has quiet hours in effect 24/7.
Some of the negatives of living in BEST which, in my opinion definitely outweight the perks, is that the residents aren’t open and welcoming as in other dorms. The doors auto-shut, and as a result no one tries to keep them open to interact with others. BEST is anti-social to an extent that I’ve made more friends in other dorms around Busch than I’ve made in BEST.
If you don’t mind being secluded amd surrounded by introverts, I would definitely keep consider BEST. However, if you’re like me, someone who constantly tries to find others to hang with, BEST isn’t the place to live, which is why I’m not living there again next year.
@mohchan360 amazingly helpful as always thank you
@NJCornellMom thank you!! i appreciate it
@mohchan360 hey also by any chance do you remember when your housing applications came up last year?
February 28, and if I had to guess, I’d say it’ll be the same day again this year.
@mohchan360 is it very hard/competitive to get housing at BEST as a first-year student?
@aachaNJ Not really, as long as you filled out the housing application for BEST over a week ago you should be fine, it’s first come first serve.
Hi, I will be a freshman in the fall and was wondering if Nursing majors are allowed to live in BEST hall.
I just wanted to know for sure as I find it odd that on the information page it seems that these dorms are available to all science-related majors except nursing.
Thanks.
@MadDaisy Unfortunately not, BEST is only open to SOE, EMSOP, and science majors within SAS.
