Hey guys, I’ve been accepted to both business schools (marketing major) at Rutgers and Penn State at the main campuses, however I can’t make up a decision on which to attend and was wondering if you can help.
Both are good business schools and have good connections, and also have the football/school spirit aspects that I’m looking for. Minor difference is that I like Penn State’s campus more than Rutgers’.
Rutgers Pros: 45 minutes from home, in state tuition, close to NYC and Philly (good for job/internship opportunities), and can still see some family and friends
Penn State Cons: 3 hours from home, out of state tuition, middle of nowhere, can’t see family and friends
Minor factors that I took into consideration is that I don’t like how Rutgers is many campuses, and I don’t like their school color of red. For Penn State, I like their colors and famous ice cream. (Obviously these don’t matter a lot hahah)
Although I feel like I like Penn State more, should I attend Rutgers? Is it the smarter thing to do in this situation?
Thank you (and PLEASE help because May 1 is around the corner lol)
How much does it cost and would you/your parents have to take on loans to pay for either one?
Rutgers is about $25,561 and Penn State is about $42,260. No, we wouldn’t be taking out loans for either.
If you want to step out of your comfort zone and discover something new, Penn State.
If stepping outside of your comfort zone is too intimidating and you don’t mind the Rutgers ‘split’ campus, then Rutgers.
(Smeal is better as is the career center, but overall, it’s what you do once you’re there, and if you’re unhappy at Penn State you’re unlikely to make friends and get involved, and you’re more likely to do poorly. So,since your parents can pay either college, choose the one where you can see yourself thriving.)
Penn State has many campuses, too - in fact, PSU has more campuses than Rutgers.
Can your family afford the OOS tuition comfortably? Are they leaving it up to you? Is it important to you to be close to home and be able to go home on the weekends to see friends and family? 3 hours isn’t that far, honestly - I drive 4 hours from State College to NYC at least once a month to see friends and my husband (I work at PSU). If you’ll have a car, it’s a really easy drive.
Rutgers sounds like the smart option, financially, but PSU sounds like the more fun option and better reputed for business.
