Rutgers Business School

As a New Jersey resident, Rutgers is the most economical option for me, and as I see it, the best business school by far in its price range.

I just wanted to know from anyone the reputation of RBS (undergrad) in the business world, particularly the financial industry. Although I may not major in finance I would like to eventually work as a financial analyst. If anyone is in or graduated from RBS, what was your experience like getting a job?

Thanks

P.S. I was accepted to the School of Arts & Sciences fairly quickly, but still waiting to hear from the business school, so I figure I have a good chance at getting in freshman year (if that means anything in the long run).

bump…

I doubt anyone will care to provide any insight but I was just admitted to Rutgers Business School as a freshman.

Congrats. Rutgers is a good program. Ultimately, doing very well, getting some experience after college then going back for an MBA are crucial to achieving your goal. Ideally, you’ll graduate with a 3.75 or higher and have done an internship and study abroad at the least. Don’t wait offers to come up. Be assertive your freshman year and let your advisor know that you want these things and need help to plan your 4 years for the most benefit to you.

Check out TCNJ also. They have a strong business program in NJ.

You can do okay coming out of rutgers. Recruiting won’t be as incredible as an ivy league school but a lot of F500 come to rutgers and graduates that apply themselves typically do well for themselves.

Thanks for the responses guys.

As for TCNJ… I was seriously considering it after visiting once… Then I visited again for an open house to hear the head of the finance department speak. He honestly gave the most unprofessional address I could imagine. He walked in late, his hair wasn’t even combed, and his shirt was all wrinkled. It literally looked like he just rolled out of bed. And his presentation was just explaining what finance was… I’m pretty sure any serious student considering majoring in finance should know the basics…

I don’t mean to rant but I was entirely underwhelmed by TCNJ. I know they have a great pre-med program though.

Absolutely go with RBS. RBS is a phenomenal school and definitely gives you the most “bang for your buck”. The education is great and opportunities are plentiful. I know several friends that went to RBS over other expensive private schools, studied hard, got a good GPA and landed top internships in NYC banks and firms (which lead to offers). Plus you are so much closer than TCNJ to New York, which is the finance capital of the world. Def. better than TCNJ (at least in my opinion).

Rutgers also has a great reputation and is recognized nationwide by top firms. TCNJ is unfortunately only known in the NJ/NY/Philly area.

Thanks for the input purple1776. I agree 100%.

FWIW, US News ranks Rutgers undergrad business school at New Brunswick #97.

I really don’t care much for rankings honestly. Especially USN.

I think the top schools on these rankings are probably accurate, but after a while things are pretty skewed. In BusinessWeek’s rankings, Rutgers is 73… But the schools above it include Quinnipac and Miami U… Both of these schools (as far as I know) aren’t nearly as rigorous as Rutgers. I think RBS has a pretty good reputation, and as aforementioned, is a great value if you live in NJ.

Rutgers seems to care.
