@reformedman Do you think it’d be alright if I e-mailed them to set up a meeting time and then went to go see then? Or should I just show up outta the blue?
I got accepted at College of Engineering and College of Science (Computer Science). I am an international student.
@brokebrowngirl In this school it would not be a good idea to email them in order to set up a meeting because this school does not encourage requested interviews. Some schools, like Case Western, or University of Michigan, that would be encouraged. But for Rutgers, the only time you’d request an interview is for financial aid reasons. To request that they strongly consider you for admission, they will just ignore your email or flatly turn you down. If they see your face, they know you care.
small edit I want to make sure people know, this is only an opinion. I don’t encourage anyone to take a day off from school, I’m only suggesting that this is what I would do. Take this advice with a grain of salt.
@reformedman Thank so so much for this advice I was going to e-mail them before, but now I’ll go there to talk to them face to face instead. Anything else I should keep in mind when I go to see admissions?
I’d probably take my class schedule for the week, just in case I’d have a chance to talk about it, and show them which particular courses I plan to ace by the end of the year and what plans I have to bring my grades up. Other than that, be yourself. By that I mean, if you are nervous, good! be nervous and show them you’re nervous. If you are excited, likewise be excited, and show them exactly that. Adults are a bit like animals, they can sense when a person is feeling a certain way, and if you try to conceal it they can sense distancing. I think the emotion you might want to sincerely draw out of yourself is respectfulness even if the person turns out to be a young 20 year old. If they say a joke, don’t overdo the laughter, that sort of thing. They need to see that you traveling to see them is a VERY important issue for you, it wasn’t an easy trip, you got work to do and this guy is your only salvation.
Goodluck
what is the link to the FA?
@Doberlady the link is https://financialaid.rutgers.edu/information-for-future-rutgers-students/incoming-student-portal/ but the information isn’t available yet
There have been changes to this information as well https://finservices.rutgers.edu/faaward/letter/awardLegacyLogin.htm but the award information is not there yet. They’ve just updated to the 2017-2018 year and allows you to choose the school. I look at it as progress! :D/
@MominNJ111 . Progress! They have loaded or linked some data as the list of schools is specific to my son! The rep on Go Rutgers said that they are shooting for today, so maybe?
Hopefully
I got required documents info letter here!
https://finservices.rutgers.edu/faaward/doc/missingDocLegacyLogin.htm
Thanks for the links! Now show me the MONEY
Got rejected by the School of Nursing…
@cl217, I see my required information for FSA loan, what does that mean? Do you know?
all I see are LOAN OFFERS!!!
@Ceciliaagnes That site is for the documents you have to complete to receive certain awards/loans/etc offers. On mine, it says I have to do the Job Application for the Federal Work Study program, and entrance counseling for the Perkins Loan and Federal Direct Loan.
Also on Go Rutgers, Jennifer Hollis said:
“As far as I understand the Office of Financial Aid is on schedule to send the email out tonight and their website would be updated to be able to view financial aid offers at that time. It is an overnight process so you might not get the notification until first thing tomorrow.”
I see the drop down to select schools… but there are no schools to select. On another page it say “you are not in our database, please contact the financial aid office”. Something tells me the turkey wasn’t fully cooked before it was served.
It gave me to button that says “view award letter”. Then It’s letting me choose the school but then giving me the same “you are not in our database, please contact the financial aid office” message
@cl217 I hope that is right
@cl217, so do you have to do them to see your award?
