Rutgers Early Action for Fall 2022 Admission

I just wish Rutgers took legacies into account–and I can totally understand all the reasons they don’t–in trying to be equitable, it’s probably not the best idea overall–but it would just be nice for the school to even acknowledge them somehow. I feel like it would bump up morale and alumni engagement more. I went there, my dad, my brother, and my older son–as well as my son’s cousin. Am just hoping this info is released sooner than later.

Rutgers and Penn State are not known for good merit. My 18 year old was offered $15,000 at UD, $8000 at Pitt, $3000 at UMD, and $0 at in state Rutgers. She didn’t apply to PS because it wouldn’t be affordable. Public universities differ in their generosity.

I’m in PA and don’t expect any for Pitt or PSU.

I figured being out of state that RU would try to get close to $40K.

We are in NJ and none of my kids applied OOS to PS because they’ve heard they’d get little to no merit, I think Rutgers has a similar rep for OOS merit. Maybe check last years posts.

Penn State definitely does offer scholarships to OOS students and I think some of them are quite formulaic (i.e. based on GPA and whether you’re going to University Park or one of the Commonwealth campuses). Notifications are coming out in February according to the PSU site.

I applied for Engineering and CS and got accepted to both.

what stats? Trying to gauge how competitive RBS is for finance?

Has anyone heard of anyone being deferred to regular decision or wait listed? I feel like all I’m hearing is accepted, not that people would be so quick to say anything else.

Last year my friend was rejected from Rutgers EA but was accepted to TCNJ ED. Idk what her stats are but i know she recieved mostly B’s and A’s and one C and she applied test optional. Another girl I know had a 3.5 and 1100 on the SAT and got off the waitlist in 2019. That was obviously before the pandemic so things have changed.

I was wondering if this year anyone was. Just trying to get a feel if rejections are dropping as well.

Haven’t heard anything but acceptances this year from people I know applied. I wouldn’t be concerned about Rutgers waiting to send out rejections till the last wave if I were you, the friend that I mentioned was rejected in last year’s cycle found out in December.

I’m the queen of overthinking!

I imagine this is very frustrating. What helped me with reasuring my chances at any of my schools was using the Collegevine admissions chance calculator, it sounds stupid but it works.

You may all already be aware - but if not: another helpful data source is Naviance’s scattergram. Assuming your school uses Naviance, the scattergram will show you how your student’s GPA and test scores compare with other students from your HS - and who was accepted, rejected, etc. This is a more realistic way to assess your chances at each college.

She’s done all that, she’s in the range but you just never know. Hopefully another drop this week.

agreed, sources that require one to input GPA are not always accurate considering the disparate manner in which GPA is calculated/weighted from one school to the next, e.g., 4.5 at one school is the highest possible GPA, whereas a 4.5 on a 6.0 scale is 75%.
School-specific Naviance scattergrams reflect (pre-pandemic) GPA that is expected of its HS students. Even Naviance is < accurate this year given the test-optional environment results many decisions based on 1 axis, not 2 ( Score +GPA).

Unfortunately Naviance is really cryptic. For example, it may show a lot of people with similar stats having gotten into Rutgers, but do you know it’s for New Brunswick and not for Camden or Newark? This year has been totally wild so far–Naviance is a great guide (or was) but since the pandemic and TO it’s really hard to get a gauge on if you will get in or not.

Naviance does not merge these three schools. If this is happening, it is due to self-reporting errors by the students, i.e., Newark & Camden applicants reporting under NB

I wouldn’t bet on it, it seems they drop every 3-4 weeks which lines up with Jan 31st.

And that’s the date early action is supposed to get a decision by so could be.
