Rutgers Engineering: Do you need to buy matlab or will RU supply that?

If so, is there a certain version I should get?

RU doesn’t supply free software, but the engineers do have two large computer labs which you can use to get your matlab assignments done. (Technically the mech e lab also has matlab computers, but the less said about that room the better…) You can also buy the latest student version at [MATLAB & Simulink Student Version - math software for engineering and science students](<a href=“MATLAB for Students - MATLAB & Simulink”>MATLAB for Students - MATLAB & Simulink) for about $100.

My advice is if you’re living on campus just use the labs to complete your homework assignments. If you’re living off campus, try using the labs first but if that ends up being inconvenient buy the download off the site. Don’t try and buy Matlab off amazon since they only sell out of date versions.

You can use the thing…**** I’m blanking on the name but basically you can access Matlab via your own computer through rutgers and they’ll explain it when you get to class. You don’t need to buy it though if you plan on doing mech. or a lot of research in your time it would probably help you.

^ It’s apps.rutgers.edu, I used that too :)

If you have DC++ or any friend that bought the software, you can get it for free there if you don’t like apps.rutgers.edu
