Rutgers engineering

Hi
I am currently a junior and planning to go to Rutgers for engineering. I wanted to know my chances. Here are my stats:

Sat : 1410 ( math- 750/ r+w - 660)
Gpa: 4.0 ( straight A student)
I will definitely be in top 10% of my class.

Main strong Subjects taken in junior year:
AP calc AB/BC
AP Physics 1
AP computer science A
Honors history
( All above 90 in the above subjects)

Senior year planning to take
Ap physics C
Ap statistics
Honors English
And remaining other computer related electives.

I Have very good extracurriculars and play a sport on state level ( won state championships) I also coach kids in sports. ( part time job) and have decent volunteer hours.

Please let me know my chances for Rutgers engineering.

Thank you

Are you in-state NJ? Looks like you should be ok for Rutgers engineering. Plan to have a backup just in case like NJIt, if you’re instate in NJ .

Good chances but try superscoring your SAT by giving it again?

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I live in NJ

You should be fine. People got in this year with way lower stats than yours

Thanks!

Yes, you are up there to get into, no worries.

Thanks

agreed, solid candidate

Thanks!!

Just a little update. I took sat again and my Superscore is 1430. I am in top 2% in my class. ( straight A student)My weighted gpa is 4.0. Taken 6 Ap and 10 honors.( taken highest level math ap calculus Ab/ bc same year and physics c ) Do I have a chance in honors program for Rutgers engineering or will I have to settle with regular engineering in Rutgers.

@engg2020 According to the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), in 2018, the average SAT score for the students admitted at the Rutgers School of Engineering (SOE) was 1420. And it probably was even higher last year.

While I am fairly certain that you will be admitted to the Rutgers SOE, I would not expect getting into the Honors program.

If you want to get into an Honors program (and even an Honors College), I recommend that you also apply to NJIT and/or Rowan.

@NJEngineerDad ,

Thanks for the reply. I thought Rutgers looked at both sat, gpa, class rank and rigour of the courses. Since I am a straight A student and have taken the highest math and science courses and been in top 2% in class rank, wouldn’t Rutgers look at this also?

@engg2020 I think they look at standardized test scores, GPA in context, and possibly class rank (although some schools do not rank anymore). But I take that as they want you to have good standardized test scores AND a good GPA in context (i.e. good GPA with rigorous classes) AND possibly good class rank. Having a job is probably also a plus.

Did you take AP tests last year? How did you do?
