So I applied to Rutgers New Brunswick as an EOF student and got in. Rutgers sent me an email saying that I have to attend a 5 week summer program there but I won't be able to because I'll be going on vacation. What would happen if I didn't attend the EOF program? Will they take my acceptance away?

If attendence at the 5 week summer program was identified as a requirement as part of your EOF application then you may be required to attend. You need to check directly with Rutgers about this. It is my understanding that the EOF Summer Program is designed to help entering students, many of whom are coming from disadvantaged backgrounds, to prepare for the rigor of college life and the rigor of courses at Rutgers. I believe there is a focus on the development of study skills, utilization of computers, and the development of reading/writing/math skills; all of which are critical for success at Rutgers. If you are not required to attend you need to ask yourself this question. What is more important to me-a summer vacation or attending a program that will maximize my chances for success at Rutgers and my future career? Good luck with your decision.

i’m mad your username is nicki minaj -.-

On topic: I suggest calling them as soon as possible to find out if the summer program is mandatory. You might have to skip on vacation this year…

Hello nickiminaj! I work in Undergraduate Admissions at RU. The EOF summer institute is mandatory.

This was taken from the site: ‘All incoming first-year students who are admitted to the School of Arts and Sciences, School of Business, and Mason Gross School of the Arts EOF Program are required to attend the Summer Institute. The 2013 SAS EOF Summer Institute is a 5-week residential program. It takes place from Saturday, June 29th through Friday, August 2nd. The Summer Institute is designed to help students make the academic, social, and emotional transition from high school to college. Students will live on-campus in the Hardenbergh Hall on the College Avenue Campus, earn degree credits (or move on to the next level of developmental courses), strengthen their academic skills, and become prepared for life as a successful college student.’

It also indicates that your admission into EOF is contigent upon your successful completion of the summer institute. I understand that vacations are planned in advance, but it looks as if you must find a way to attend the 5 week program.
