Rutgers for investment banking?

Ok, so I'm not really the smartest kid ever. And by smart I mean GPA wise. I can work hard and think well in real life situations. I have a bunch of work experience that I'm proud of too. Anyways, I want to go into iBanking.

I really doubt with my GPA I can get into Wharton (my dream school) and even if I did, I couldn't afford it. So Rutgers is my #1 choice for now (still looking into other colleges. But for in-state Rutgers is really the best choice as of now that I can get into.)

I know Rutgers would have some alumni working at banks that would help me out but how realistic is it to go into an exceptional bank after college? Is it a possibility at all? Besides a high GPA, what would I need? I plan on majoring in Economics and Finance in the business school.

From what I gather the ibanking gig is about an incredible resume (great undergrad school and grades) and terrific contacts/mentors. I believe they also want to know that you'll be accepted into a top tier MBA program.
Rutgers undergrad business dept is rated in the top 100 and if you get stellar grades, you can make it happen there. It is not an easy career path, regardless of your undergrad pedigree. Best of luck.

The I Banks do not recruit there. Rutgers is a decent school and the best public in New Jersey but it will take enormous effort to get into BB investment banking coming from there. You will need a 3.9 + G.P.A. and a hot resume. And you will have to network your * off to even get your resume to the banks. Other schools which give you a much better shot are University of Michigan, University of Virginia, even Villanova. If your looking to save $, you could go to Rutgers freshman year, get a 4.0 and transfer to a target school. Check out wallstreetoasis.com, you can learn everything you need to know from the site.
