I really don't know what to pick. I heard Vandy has deflation which scares me. I heard that UMDNJ is not a very good med school. Also, the fact that you have to decide if you want to matriculate by December of your junior year scares me. If I chose safe route, I wil never know if I could have gotten into a top med school. If I take a risk and don't get in, I will regret it. Rutgers is just my state school.

Most Vandy premeds end up in their home state medical school at the end anyway, If the do end up in med school. Unless you are not sure about medicine as career, I don’t think it worth it to give up a guaranteed spot.

Go with the guarantee

The Guarantee. The spread between the best medical schools and the bottom is much less than the spread between the upper colleges and the lower ones. A US Medical school is a US Medical school period. Don’t be prestige obsessed. If you shine in medical school you get a desired residency or fellowship. Some of the classes in Rutgers had a lot of students the first few classes which turned off d.

Just curious how much is TCNJ tuition and UMDNJ Med school tuition under the combined program nowadays?

Some background- a friend of mine is a doctor who is head of a department in a large respected hospital in NYC. She said it makes no difference if doctors under her supervision went to an ivy med school or a state school. Nobody pays any attention to it at all at that level. Nobody even cares! They all listen to her religiously since she knows her stuff. Why is this interesting ? Because she went overseas for her med school.

The total cost that I will have to pay is like 15k a year for TCNJ with tuition paid for and like 50k a year at UMDNJ (all costs included). My parents are willing to pay 160k total, so i will probably have 100k debt (probably more like 130k with tuition hikes) by the end of the process.

2011 - In State - Tuition/Fee/Board/Lodge - TCNJ $28,500 ( 3yrs )
- NJMS $55,000 ( 4yrs )

There is reduced UG tuition at TCNJ for kids in this program. There might also be so discount on the MEd school for the combined programstill- not sure as of this date.
