I am looking for some opinions regarding deciding between Rutgers School of Engineering Honors program for free vs. Cornell which will probably cost around $30k-$40k out of pocker per year vs. Carnegie Mellon which will probably cost about the same as Cornell. Does anyone have any opinions on this very difficult decision? In particular, in 4 years how much less value does a Rutgers Honors degree have vs. a degree from Cornell (Ivy) or Carnegie Mellon. Any opinions welcomed. Thanks.

Obliviously they’re all good schools, but I’d pick which one fits me the best. Rutgers has a very good reputation out of the state, but Carnegie-Mellon and Cornell surpass Rutgers in prestige. If you’re looking at location, Rutgers and Carnegie-Mellon are the best for internships being near New York(and Philly) and Pittsburgh respectively. Financially, Rutgers would be your best bet. With that being said, I’d have to say go with your gut. I wouldn’t want to have any regrets later in life.

niteowl-- also try posting your question on the engineering forum. I don’t think you can go wrong with any of those choices. I would visit each campus, if possible, before you make your final decision.

Go where you are going to be happy! If money is not an issue, I would choose Cornell. The people you will meet and the education and resources these Ivies have are incomparable to state schools. At the end, it is 4 years of you life and you want to spend them being happy. If graduating with a lot of loans is going to stress you out, then go to RU for free. You cannot go wrong with RU, it is an excellent school and from what I hear their Engineering program is pretty tough. Good luck!!
