Is there any way to apply to honors engineering after freshmen year if you do really well during that time?

Yes, you can apply for the honors program after you have demonstrated your academic rigor during your freshman year. You can contact the dean for more detail and procedures.

That’s good to hear. Is there a way I can move up to honors by the spring semeseter of freshmen year?
And if that’s not possible, can someone not in the honors program still take honors classes if they score high enough on placement exams? I’m talking mostly about Calculus, but I’d like to know about other subjects too.

It is not possible to “move up” to honors during your freshman year. You must prove your motivation and willingness for a challenge with your final grades at the end of the spring. It is, however, possible to take honors courses by two ways. 1) Get a special permission from the dean and/or 2) all regular level classes are filled up and you have already spoken to the dean. The placement exam does not determine anything; it’s just a test that makes sure that you are not a complete neanderthal. If you do well, you can continue studying at a regular level. If you fail, then well, maybe Rutgers isn’t right for you.
