I'm currently applying to Rutgers, and recently looked up their honors program on their website. or rather, i looked it up and was thoroughly uninformed by anything they had related to it.. how do you get considered for it? during the application process, or do you have to apply for their honors program? and how hard is it to get in? I'm using rutgers as a safety, so if i could get into their honors program that'd be a rather sick safety

You are automatically considered for the Honors Program when you apply. SAS Honors works on class percentile and SAT scores and you will be notified in your acceptance letter if you were also accepted into the SAS Honors Program.

If you are applying to other schools like business or engineering, they have different protocol. For engineering, they will notify you the summer after you enroll if you are eligible. Note that pharmacy does not have an honors program until the third year.

Make sure you apply by 12/1 and do the essay so you can also be considered for merit. As long as your school ranks, you will automatically be considered for the Honor’s Program when you apply. For SAS, I think you need an SAT of at least 2050 with no part less than 650. Also you need to be in the top 10th percentile of your High School class. If you are apllying to the Business School, you are eligible to be in SAS Honors. I know that Engineering has it’s own program.

As for the dates my son was accepted last November and notified about Honors in January. We went to an Honor’s program Open House in February and that is what convinced him to attend Rutgers. He lives in an Honor’s dorm, has made great friends and loves the Honor’s class he is taking which only has 30 students.

can you continue with the process of applying to the honors program if you’re still not sure that you’re going to rutgers? for example, after you’ve been notified that you’re being considered you have to do extra stuff like have an interview. can u do that extra stuff while still deciding which school to go to?

Is the Honors Program worth it? Based on the stats on the website & from our SEBS info session, my daughter qualifies. We heard you get a $1000/yr scholarship, but is the extra work too much?

There is no extra work involved in applying for Honors -if qualified you will be notified.

I would definitely recommend starting out in honors even if you don’t continue solely for dorming preference. There is an Honors dorm on each campus and you are likely to get your first choice if you pick one of them. Also you will have access to Honors classes which are much smaller than the regular sections.

As far as scholarship money, it is not tied to Honors. They can award you the Presidential Scholarship and you don’t have to participate in the Honor’s program. There is really no scholarship money associated with the program.

Again if accepted into the program, I would definitely go to one of the Honor’s Open Houses.

I heard that there is quite the interview process for SEBS Honors, and mamajay is correct that money isn’t always linked to the Honors programs, but that there are scholarships associated with them that could prove beneficial. (For example, once I was accepted into Engineering Honors, I was awarded an additional scholarship without needing to apply for it.)

Honors housing is pretty nice, especially with the wonky housing lottery system currently used.

What happens if your school doesn’t rank? I have NJ residency but I currently go to school abroad. I have a 2150 SAT and ~3.7 UWGPA but my school does not rank. Will I still be considered for Honors?

umm i got my acceptance to arts and sciences and pharm but i have no idea whether i got into the honors program with arts and sciences. how do i know? there’s nothing on my acceptance email/status that says “honors”

todd: Your school may not rank but it still knows your percentile. They should be able to tell Rutgers which percentile you are in and that is the criteria used, not specific rank.

nritya: There will be a SAS Honors acceptance letter in print along with your paper acceptance letter to Rutgers if you have been accepted.

I was accepted to SAS honors with a writing score of 630(My math and CR were 800 and 750 respectively).
My daughter got into both SAS Honors and SEBS Honors so we are excited. Her interests are biology and pre-med so its going to be a little tough to make the decision since both seem suitable. We will be going to both open housees in March but are there any other resources to help us make the decision?
2sk211: What were your Daughter’s stats? I am looking at the Honors Programs from SAS and SEBS as well.
@College2018Hopeful I got into SAS, SEBS, and SOE Honors as well.

My Son doesn’t have those credentials! Glad your kid is not applying in Fall 2018!
