Rutgers Housing

I think that I will be enrolling this week so I have a quick question. I know that College Ave and Livingston are the popular choices for people to live in. Since i'm in SEBS, are these areas fine to live in. Whats the best option for me to live because I still wanna be close to main area where people are

So you know, Busch/Livi are about 5 minutes away from each other. College Ave is ‘across the river’, and C/D is through downtown NB and probably the biggest hike from the other campuses, relatively speaking. Look at some google maps to get oriented.

Search for a Rutgers building or campus: [Find Places](http://maps.rutgers.edu/)

bus map: [NextBus Map](http://www.nextbus.com/predictor/publicMap.shtml?a=rutgers&r=routef)

College Ave is popular to a certain set of people: those looking for a more urban feel and close to frats/parties/downtown.

Likewise, Busch appeals to those with certain priorities: more suburban feel, big library, close to engineering and pharmacy classes, quieter.

Livingston is the ‘freshman campus’ because it has the most rooms for freshman. It has a brand new dining hall that is very nice.

My son is on C/D this year, with most of his classes on Livingston. C/D is ok but seems a lot quieter than the other campuses. It is not a problem with transportation unless you have classes later on at night (when fewer buses are running) or during rush hour in NB (4-6pm) when it can be a slow ride to where you’re going.

Are you entering as a freshman? You can live anywhere. Chances are, your classes will be on more than 1 campus. The people are everywhere. I would not worry about not being near people at Rutgers.

If you are SEBS, nearly all the classes in your major will be on C/D. If you are lucky, you can probably find the rest on College Ave and avoid the 20-30 bus ride to B or L.

PS - the dining hall on College Ave is considered the worst on campus.

nj2011mom is that true even as a freshman? I usually advise people that freshman campus choice isn’t as important as later on because you are likely to have classes on multiple campuses. Even as a pharmacy transfer student many years ago, I had classes on multiple campuses.

The bus ride from College ave to C/D isn’t that long. I lived on C/D for a month and HAD to move. I personally hated it. College ave is a much better atmosphere if you can get it. It was boring to me. I think it’s worth the bus ride to be on a better campus!

I don’t think my son would live on C/D again. He would probably go off campus before it came to that (he is a RBS student). The bus ride is not bad IF you do not have to travel between campuses late at night or during rush hour (4-6 evenings).

That being said, it is a good campus if a lot of your classes or research is on C/D. Some people really like it there, and their dining hall, from what I hear, is pretty good.

If you don’t like to indulge yourself in tranquil atmosphere and appreciate birds chirping on trees, don’t come to Busch.
