Does anyone know about Rutgers- James D schol? I have received this schol from Rutgers.
What's the maximum amount that Rutgers give as a schol? I thought that Rutgers give full schol including Room and tuition to some students provided they have grades n test scores. But this one gives only part of it.
Just wondering!! Not sure wht the criteria for this schol?
Any info?

I just got mine, it says as long as you maintain a 3.0 or higher, its a scholarship for $10,000 a year for 4 years of undergrad study.

My stats:
2230 SATs: 770 English, 760 Math, 720 Writing
39/542 Class Rank (Very good public school)

Yea I got mine too. My stats are 1490/1600 on the Sat's and top 5% in my school. I know it's a 1500 to get a full ride. Is there anything I can do, like appeal or maybe even take the SAT's again? I'm only 10 points off, and I have a whole lot of ec and teacher recs.

You should take the SAT again. I know someone last year had 1490 and took again in Jan and got 1500 (super scored) and got a full ride. Good Luck!

Now I am puzzled. I have M800 R 770 W 770. Why didnt I get full ride? My school doesnt rank. Hopefully I am in the 5% of the class. What are the criteria?

First-Year Scholarships

go there and see where you stand

i got 1560/1600 (2350/2400) and am prob in top 6-7% so i didnt get the full ride... that's cutting it real close tho. oh well, im not going there anyway.

wow, i only got $7500

I guess it sucks that my school didn't give out rank, even when Rutgers asked for it -- just goes to show you that eliminating class rank (and not telling any college, even if they ask about it) can be detrimental

btw
3.78/4.43 at Very Competitive HS in NJ
1470 SAT

bummed -- I wanted more that 7500 per year

At DD's school, the transcripts show where the student places in class rank--not like 1st in class, 2nd in class, 3rd in class, but top 5 percent, top 10 percent, top 15 percent. That's where Rutgers gets the number and that's how they tell you what award you are getting.

So if you got $7,500 instead of $10,000, then maybe you're in the top 15 percent of your class and not the top 10 percent. If you're really in the top 10 percent, you might ask your guidance counselor to call and speak to admissions. There might have been some sort of mix-up in the records. Good luck!

yeah -- we don't even have percentile ranks. The ONLY, and I mean ONLY, statistic our school released for the first time this year is the top 20% cutoff, something like a 4.1. Unofficially, my counselor told me I was in the top 10%, but she said that it doesnt matter since we dont rank (in either form).

But yeah, even though I am a bit bummed out -- Im prob still going to Rutgers next year!

That's terrible! But...how could you even get the $7500 if your school doesn't give out ANY rank? You need to be top 15 percent for that, so your school must have given Rutgers some official indication of where you are.

Our school shows us the statistics they release to Rutgers.

it basically top 20% --> 4.1something
Val --> 4.7

maybe they do a statistical analysis?

But you're right -- I do not know my official ranking (may counselor may have been wrong, or I may have missed it by a couple hundredths) nevertheless, my scholarship is $7,500.

You might try calling them, especially if you're planning on going there...$2,500 a year is a lot of money. Doesn't hurt to ask. Good luck!

1) You should try to take SAT again to try got a superscored 1500

2) almost all schools will give % rank for scholarship purpose (our school elimated ranking as well, but they do provide the % information for the purpose of scholarship)

Does Rutgers ever combine those other university scholarships based on rank and SAT with the Carr Scholarship, which seemes to be based on other criteria?

The Carr Scholarship IS the one based on rank and SATs, isn't it?

The James Dickson Carr Scholarship is based on a "wholistic review" of the application, including leadership contributions, and prior to 2006 had only been awarded to certain minorities. James Dickson Carr was the first African American graduate of Rutgers.

How many Carr scholarships were given out this year?

Okay, here's why I'm confused, then. DD's award letter says she has been awarded a James Dickson Carr Scholarship. The award amount is consistent with her numbers per that chart on the Rutgers first-year scholarship page: http://admissions.rutgers.edu/080101.asp

That's why I think the Carr Scholarship is the same as the one on that chart. Although now I see that the Carr Scholarship is not mentioned anywhere on there....

I would looooooove to think that DD will get ANOTHER scholarship offer from Rutgers, but I think this is it.

Wackymother, I also got a Carr scholarship, and today in the mail I got a provost scholarship for 6,000 per year. So DD could get another one.
