Rutgers Merger?

I keep hearing about some merger, what is it?

Is it going to help rutgers go up in the rankings?

To simply put, UMDNJ will be dissolved and be incorporated into Rutgers as its own medical school. Rutgers University is forfeiting its school in Camden that will be merged with Rowan University as a part of their school. As a result, Rowan is also creating the Cooper Medical Center down in Camden. The Cancer Institute located on Busch campus will be established as its own separate institution. These terms will be taken to effect in July 2013.

To answer your question, I really don’t know what to say. Rutgers is indeed absorbing a medical school, but that won’t necessarily promote increase in our ranking. It largely depends on students’ motivation to strive for academic excellence, and most importantly, how our new president will effectively handle the resulting gargantuan University. At this point, I can only hope that the governor made a right decision in promoting this plan.
