Rutgers New Brunswick SEBS

Hi so I am really stressed at the moment:

So all my life I have been an amazing student, and have received good grades. Then freshman year, I had a lot going on and kind of hit a rough start at the beginning of the year. But nonetheless, I bounced back and these were my freshman grades:

English II: B+
Geometry: B-
Honors World History: B+
Honors Biology: B
Spanish II:B
Financial Literacy: A
Art: A-
Health: A
Physical Education: A

Sophmore year my grades took a dip as they started off really rough since I had family problems and was depressed for a while. I had started with almost all Cs and ended w almost all As to end w most Bs. My final averages were:

Honors English II: B-
Honors US History I: B-
Honors Chemistry: B-
Honors Algebra II: D+
Academic Spanish II: A-
AP Computer Science Principles: A-
Health: A-

The one D+ is really scaring me and stressing me out. The thing is I know I can get amazing grades if I actually study and concentrate which I couldn’t for half of sophmore year due to fam problems and depression. And next two years I’m gonna grind and I’m anticipating the following grades:

Junior Year:
AP Lang (English): B+
AP US History II: A
AP Physics: A
AP Psychology: A
Health: A+
Honors Spanish 4: A
Pre Calculus: A

Senior Year:
AP Literature: B+
AP Calculus AB: A-/A
AP Environmental Science: A
AP Computer Science A: A+
AP Spanish: A
Honors Engineering: A+

I took an AP exam for comp sci and am anticipating a 5. I do much better on standardized tests. I took the psat and got a 1350/1520 without studying. I started studying a bit for the SATs which I’m taking in August and I’m been getting 1450+ on practice exams so I figure with actual studying I can get 1500+ when I take it. My extracurrciulars aren’t bad: I play varsity golf. I do 7 clubs. I’m secretary of a club. I’m starting and am gonna be president of two more clubs over course of next two years. I volunteer at a hospital. Im getting a job over the summer. I’m running to be VP for student counsel next year.

Overall my gpa is not bad and will tremendously be improved after junior and senior year. But that one D+ seems horrible to me and would to anyone else. I’m off by .2 from a C- and my teacher won’t curve it. So I’m stuck in a dilemma. And the district I’m in won’t let me retake it to replace my current grade. I want to go to Rutgers Univeristy New Brunswick School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. Will this D+ strongly prevent me from getting in? Despite my other things will this appear as soemthung horrible even if I have only D+? Do I have a good chance of getting in? What about the honors program/college?

Hi!! Personally I don’t think you need to heavily worry or stress over that one D+. Although it isn’t a grade that is looked on very well; if you persist to do well in your following years you will be fine. Your potential SAT score, extra curriculars, and hard difficulty courses show that you are a well rounded student that is not afraid to challenge yourself. I would not worry at all about that D+ and they will understand that, that one grade doesn’t reflect your overall skills. I don’t think you should have a problem entering SEBS or Rutgers in general because of this grade at all. In fact I think you won’t have much trouble being accepted into Rutgers. However I cant give you a definite answer about the Honors College because it is very selective and hard to get into. It might be a stretch to get into the Honors College, however I feel you would be able to enter some Honors Programs/courses. Just have confidence in yourself and don’t let that one D+ scare you. As you progress you will realize that one grade is not worth stressing over. Just make sure you don’t continue to let your grades fall. If that D+ becomes the only bad grade you have throughout highschool you don’t need to fret. As your progress, things will work out and you will find success if you continue to put the hard effort in
