<p>Anyone go/planning to go there?</p>
<p>I'm coming from out of state and I have a few questions...</p>
<p>How is the social scene? How many people dorm? I understand its a commuter school and it has a much smaller population than NB..</p>
<p>Also how's the reputation and school compared to NB, especially the business school?</p>
<p>My D goes to Newark and loves it. You have NJIT there where all the frats are and they have a lot of them you do not need to worry about being able to find a party f that is what you are looking for. I am not sure about the amount that commute but Woodward hall is nice. We live out of state and it was good for her. The freshman dorm has the package room and stonsby is connected so no matter what the weather you do not have to get out in it to get to food. NYC is about 10-15 minutes by train. They have great shuttles for you to do shopping and movies. here is a link about the school

She has friends that are from NB and attending newark for the business school. the law school is there as well. you are close to penn station and the subway is near. she wanted a small school and she says that newark has the feel of the small private school with smaller classes and all. the best thing is to visit but have an open mind it is a good school and you can learn alot from the academics offered. <p>i go to rutgers newark and i deeply regret it. social scene is a joke. campus is a desert starting on friday mornings. dont come here as i am transferring out.</p>

my son will be taking a course at Rutgers Newark this summer, from 6-9PM.</p>
<p>Can anyone give us a heads up as to the parking situation there? (I don't know what building he will be in) Safety a concern?</p>

<p>parking is minimal and safety is not an issue my kiddo attended her freshman year and loved it. she never felt unsafe. she will be returning next fall. parking garage is within walking distance of all buildings. hope he likes it. good luck</p>
<p>i've just finished my first year there, and i gotta tell you, it sucks. The njit frat parties the second poster has mentioned are small, crappy and full of guys, as the njit has 4 guys to 1 girl ratio, while the NB parties require the opposite ratio. So pretty much no social life. The business school may be as demanding as the NB one because most professors teach classes in both campuses, but the newark policies are more lenient. For example you'd need a 2.5 gpa to stay in the business school in newark compared to a 3.0 in NB, which means that newark gets all those students who fail out of NB. Safety wise, i dont think there have been any concerns. To add to the strengths of the school i must say that ive really enjoyed the small school atmosphere. People are friendly and sometimes cool. The bottom line is, attend new brunwick.</p>
<p>i would never go to RU-Newark.. the area is just too CROWDED and unsafe.. i live like 40 mins north and it is frightening to pass through the streets...</p>
<p>I must say my kiddo has never felt unsafe adn can not wait to get back to school. if you are smart enough to notice a dangerous area you just dont go into that area all large cities have bad areas. rutgers has a shuttle to a lot of places so you do not have to walk through any area that you dont feel safe in. good luck next year</p>
<p>If you're in Newark safety is going to be a concern no matter what. You have to be careful what areas you're hanging around in if you're going to be venturing off campus, especially late at night.</p>
<p>newark campus is pretty safe as they have police cruisers around every corner. I myself have never felt unsafe walking during the nights. however there are quite a few beggars here and they're nothing unusual.</p>
<p>I stopped by the Newark Public Library today, (which required me to swing through the Newark Campus) and I noticed that the planned parenthood clinic is really close too. I just thought that was another little convenience.</p>
