Newbie here! My 14-year-old daughter (current freshman) wants to attend a pre-college summer acting program. She is very experienced and lives for theater (like everyone else on this board, I’m sure).
She applied to the BUSTI program and the Rutgers program. She was accepted into BUSTI, and has a phone interview with Rutgers coming up. I have no idea whether she’d be offered a spot in the Rutgers program (especially considering she’s young), but was curious if one program is more highly regarded than the other? Or does anyone know how the programs differ?
Also, I’ve read about a lot of kids getting into BUSTI on this website. Do most kids who apply get in?
My daughter went to the Rutgers pre-college program before her Sophomore year. She was one of the youngest that year. She LOVED the program, and it really helped her acting a lot. My observation is that she got more out of the Rutgers summer program than the Carnegie-Mellon program, in terms of improving her skills. Best of luck to you!
My rising Senior attended BUSTI this past summer and loved it. It’s intensive but I did not get the sense it was overly competitive. The kids work very hard - no time to do anything else - and she felt like she got great acting coaching and beyond. Came away with greater confidence about the whole college experience. It has really inspired her to think seriously about directing, too. Also has put BU among the top on her list because she loved the CFA vibe so much.
