Rutgers or Penn State?

So im having a tough time deciding on these two schools. I from NJ but I really loved Penn State. I will be majoring in Political Science with a minor in business. I know how high the tuition for out of state students at Penn State but the campus and academics look much better then Rutgers (biased opinion I know). Is it worth the debt if I go to Penn State or just go to Rutgers?

also, I do plan on going to law school. forgot about that

Ah another nj resident looking beyond the conventional Rutgers. What career do you intend to aim for? They’re both pretty similar in rankings.

I plan on going to law school and have a career in law.

I went to grad school at Rutgers, very happy there, lived in Piscataway the early years of our marriage. The differences between PSU and Rutgers, as a poli sci undergrad, are going to be fairly small. If you plan to go to law school, and you were my kid, we’d be talking about the advantages of not already being in debt when you get your bachelor’s  The tuition at PSU is really, really high for OOS, and is only going to get worse. Then add in the travel costs — at $4/gal, driving home will cost a bunch.

If it were me, I’d go to Rutgers. Debt is not something you want to take on so early in life. PSU is wonderful (my two go there) but you have to take a practical, long view. Don’t let people say “Oh, you just went to Rutgers”. It’s a great school. You have to think about paying for law school, too!

They are peer schools. Cheaper one gets the edge.

Thanks for the advice. I really do love Penn State but I’m just not comfortable with going into that much debt and law school after. Rutgers is probably my safest choice.
