Rutgers or Rowan

Hi I’m a high school senior that got into both rutgers and rowan for engineering. I want to do pharmaceutical research as a career so I’m wondering which one would be best. Rutgers offers combined program for masters but would it even be cheaper or worth it in the long run? If I do go to rowan I’d definitely do a minor in cheme. Here are the scholarships and total costs

Rowan- 10000 a year/ total cost with scholarship 20,000
Rutgers-3500/32000

I feel like the course within my possible major at Rutgers is better suited towards my career goal but I really like the research aspect of Rowan. I didn’t get into the honors college at Rutgers and I’m waiting to hear from Rowan. I plan on appealing for more aid too.

Go Rowan hands down. You’re saving $48000 plus interest over 4 years

If I go to rowan I’d apply to go to grad school after… would it still be worth it vs. the five year masters at rutgers?

Engineering work is commonly done with a bachelor’s degree.

Yeah I know but for pharmaceutical research it’d be better to get a master’s or phD

S17 is a sophomore at Rowan (not engineering). $10k/year is pretty much full tuition. You should come out under $20k/yr, especially junior and senior year if you opt for off campus.
Both are great options. Have you visited? Totally different campus vibe at each.

I am kind of confused. What kind of pharmaceutical research? Not the first thing I would think of with an engineering degree (but definitely possible).

Probably gene therapy related stuff.

I think, as a HS student, you are potentially pidgeonholing yourself into a very niche part of engineering.

Yeah I kinda realize that so even though that’s my ideal goal, I would be okay doing any type of research because I like it a lot.

Rowan is known for offering research opportunities to undergrads. They have invested a great deal into their facilities. I cannot compare them to Rutgers but you certainly will get much more personal attention at Rowan. The cost difference should make you seriously consider Rowan.

Rutgers has the Waksman Institute. My niece did summer research there as a high schooler; not sure if there are undergrad opportunities there. Something to ask about. Rowan facilities are mostly brand new and gorgeous, including on campus housing. A walkable campus vs. Rutgers different campuses.
