Rutgers or Syracuse?

Hello everyone,

I have been at a community college for a year and have been accepted to Rutgers New Brunswick and Syracuse. I came up to NY because I wanted to transfer to Syracuse, but now that I’ve been accepted to Rutgers too, I’m split. I’m from NJ so rutgers would only be 15k per year instead of 50k per year. Job placement for Syracuse Computer Science is in the 90%+ range. Syracuse is a very well known private school and maybe higher-ups most likely have connections with it. Rutgers also has a very good Computer Science program, which school would you go for? I’m pretty split on a decision right now.

Heyy, nice to meet you. I currently go to Rutgers and I’m a sophomore studying Computer Science too. I feel that the department has structured computer undegrad very well and the computer science student community is very active. Because classes are generally large, even at the higher level courses, there is some getting used to the way material is taught (but I think that’s expected at any large university). I feel that overall, that the quality of education in terms of material at Rutgers is good, but Rutgers really lacks the ability to be a resource to students. For example, some professors are mainly here for research, so they don’t care as much about being a good teacher. You won’t find many of those in the computer department, but the attitude is still pervasive from department to department at Rutgers. At a large school like Rutgers, many of the finer aspects of learning breaks down. But if you do come here, its essential you find a community of friends, maybe even in your major. Feel free to ask me anymore questions!

Hey! Thanks for the response! So if you had another chance to go to a school for comp sci would you choose Rutgers again? Also, how do you like the overall size of the school, does it take some getting used to?
