GPA: 3.15 (plan on bringing that up with stellar first semester senior grades. I know what's at stake so I'll be more likely to rise to the challenge... finally.)

SAT: 1940 (CR: 690, M: 610, W: 640) (single-test date scores. awaiting scores from June SAT..)

Class Council Representative

Student Council President

ERASE Club Vice President (End Racism and Sexism Everywhere)

Writer for School Newspaper

Key Club Member

2 Years of Basketball (Might turn out to be 3 years if I decide to play next year but the coach is a d-bag and I don't feel like dealing with any unnecessary drama.)

1 Year of Football (Soph. year)

And I'm a black male from a North Jersey suburb. My father attended Rutgers-Newark decades ago and my older brother currently attends Rutgers-NB... in case you wanted to know.

Im legacy of Rutgers too! You have the enough to get into most of those. UMD is getting tougher, but being a minority never hurts! Write a strong essay!!! GOODLUCK!!

And I got my junior year grades back, got in the 3.4-3.5 range. So I have a 3.21/3.22, higher than what my expectation of 3.15 for my 3-year cumulative was… if the difference matters. Regardless, selling yourself short sometimes has the ability to make you feel a bit better in the long run. lol

Suggestions of schools that I should think about applying to would be appreciated, too. I’m open to universities all across the states as long as yearly total cost doesn’t get too far over $30000. 8-/ .

I’m thinking about majoring in either

Marketing (then go for my MBA)

Advertising (possibly if I want to pursue copywriting… ehh)

Business Sustainability (Although I’m not exactly sure what majors in business sustainability are titled…)

Psychology (to get a Psy.D or Ph.D in clinical psychology as my mother did… 8-| )

“Pre-Law” (you know what would come next… as my father did…)

I find the idea of having patients or clients and consulting with them extremely interesting (at least now), which is why I’m interested in the majors I’m interested in. I want to become an “expert” in a certain field (don’t know exactly what yet) and help others… that’s pretty much it. Thanks if you decide to reply.

My son is a “rising senior” and we’re from NJ as well. You look pretty good for all on your list, although Geneseo is probably a Low Reach. See the annexed summary from a SUNY website. SUNY Binghampton is probably a match.

You should at least consider TCNJ and Ramapo. With instate tuition and their strong academics, they are both a great value. TCNJ is now harder to get into than Rutgers.

Other match schools could be Syracuse, Drexel, St. Joseph’s in Philly (safety), Northeastern, Uconn, American, James Madison & Va. Tech. Lafayette and Lehigh are (low) reaches. These are named regardless of price, because you might get a scholarship which you were not expecting, or get more than you expected. Drexel and St. Joe’s sometimes give big ($30k range) money. If you go to a school that’s a step (St. Joe’s, Dayton or URI), or (sometimes two: Temple?) below your matches, you could get into an Honor’s program and get major money and other perqs with it.

Make up for that average as a senior and I think you have a very fair shot at Geneseo.

I had an 1840 SAT score and 3.3 GPA and made it regular decision. It was a reach school for me but I raised my average senior year and I think that made a difference. I have no idea how selective they will be next year but your stats are already higher than mine so I think you could say it’s a low reach or match.
