Rutgers Pharmacy 2016

Hi… I recently got accepted to Rutgers School of Arts and Sciences at New Brunswick. I want to become a pharmacist but I got rejected there. Is there any way for me to become a pharmacist?? I have no choice but to attend the school in New Brunswick but I don’t know when will be the best time to transfer school to school. Plz help someone…

You can always go to Rutgers SAS and then reapply to Ernest Mario and other pharmacy schools down the road. Once you get your bachelor’s you can hopefully apply and be able to transfer somewhere…it will take longer than the now expedited-6 year process tho.

Thanks… I was thinking of getting a bachelors in chem and then transfer to the pharmacy school. I am just worried that what if I don’t get accepted to Rutgers pharmacy school. I don’t want to go out of state tho

@TheDidactic, aren’t there pathways to Rutgers where you start at Stockton and other schools and then transfer to Rutgers?

I am planning to take the pharmacy prerequisites at Rutgers SAS during the fall, summer, and spring term. I was wondering if Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy will accept the credits I take in the summer or winter session???

You best talk to them directly and ask. But I would not recommend taking the science classes in a shorter than full semester session.

Will this schedule work for the next 2 years?? I am planning to transfer after 2 years. This is the schedule that I’m planning to take for the next 2 years:

FALL TERM:General Chemistry I
Precalculus
General biology I
English 098 Composition skills
(15 CREDITS)

WINTER SESSION: Psychology
(3 CREDITS)

SPRING TERM: Calculus
English 100 Basic composition

General biology II
General chemistry II
General Biology lab
(18 CREDITS)

SUMMER SESSION: Systems physiology
Intro experimentation

Art History
(7 CREDITS)

FALL TERM: Organic Chemistry I
Intro. to Microeconomics
General physics I
General physics lab
Expository writing
Middle Eastern Studies
(18 CREDITS)

WINTER SESSION: Spanish II

History( Africa, Asia, and Latin American)

(7 CREDITS)

SPRING TERM: Organic chemistry II
Organic chemistry lab
General physics II
Basic statistics for research
2nd level college level writing course
(16 CREDITS)

Does anyone know if Rutgers will accept winter or summer session credits??

You need to ask them if they accept transfers into their program and what kind of credits you need to be able to transfer.

Thanks… Does the schedule above makes sense for the next 2 years??

Do you have any AP credits to lighten your credit load?

I’m taking AP Chemistry but the AP score results will come I. July…

in July*

Oh ok. I was thinking more of econ, history, English credits. Those might reduce credit load. It is not real advisable to skip Chem 1 which AP Chem credit could be used for.

Okay… Will the schedule for the next 2 years be good though? Like the work load…

Your main priority is to find out how difficult it is to transfer to the pharmacy college. You can only find that out by directly asking people who run the program. I have known students who start at SAS at Rutgers hoping to transfer in to the more competitive schools within Rutgers, and they were not successful. Most of the time, they did not understand how competitive it would be. To get an idea of the GPA of incoming transfers to the pharmacy schools , check out the last column on the right of admission profile (NOTE: this does NOT imply that anyone with that GPA range would get in.)

I sent the Rutgers pharmacy dean regarding this but I received no reply yet, so I’m waiting.

Deans are very busy people and usually do not have the time to answer questions from students, no matter how legitimate. I would suggest reaching out via telephone to the undergrad program director or some such person. If you live in the area, can you arrange for a visit to the department?

Thanks. Well, from looking at websites regarding the pharmacy school, people say that it’s very hard to get in and a high GPA is required. It says that the school mostly accepts people straight from high school and about 20 seats are available to transfers. Also, if the high school students do not enroll into the program, a seat could be given to a transfer student.
