Hi im about to become a senior in New Jersey and was thinking about going to Rutgers to save money and study premed. Im not really sure if I can get in though with a gpa of 3.7 and a 1790 SAT score. I did tennis and held a few jobs but other than that just a lot of community service. If I was somehow accepted into Rutgers how would the school system work if I wanted to study Premed. Some of my friends told me that premed is its own school while others said its just a list of classes. I want to go to med school but Im not really sure how studying premed works in Rutgers. If somehow could explain this Id very much appreciate it... Oh yeah.. I did terrible on my AP tests so I was wondering whether or not I'm still obligated to take certain classes. Sorry If Im ranting. I just happen to have a lot of questions.

Pre-med is not its own major; students usually get a science major and take all the medical school prerequisites necessary such as orgo, gen chem, and gen bio. The science majors are all in the School of Arts and Sciences and you can probably get into that.

There is a Pharmacy school with a six year program if you would like to apply for that, but you would be studying pharmacy for six years and could possibly try for medical school afterwords. The pharmacy school is more selective than SAS, though.

Those are the required scores to AP out of certain courses. If you do not get the required score, you may be required to take the course depending on your school and major’s course requirements.
