Rutgers SOE Placement Test and Courses

HI, I'm very anxious right now haha. Help me please. :]
I just got my rutgers placement test score back. I took both the Math 2 placement and the english. I got placed into English 101 Expository Writing and Math 115 Precalculus.

I'm curious if I got placed into a decent english course. Im not sure how it compares to other english courses.
Also, I currently take AP Calc AB but i got placed into PreCalc... It was something I did not expect. I did take the AP exam, so I'm hoping I did well on it to place into Calc 2. But it was a difficult exam this year and I'm unsure if I got a 4 or 5. So is there anyway I could be placed into at least Calc 1 instead of PreCalc other than the AP credit?

Thanks!

Hate to be a debbie downer, but no.

Call them and ask and maybe they’ll make an exception, you never know.

If you get a 4 or 5 on AB Calc, I’m guessing you’ll be exempt from Calc 1 only. Taking precalc at a local college over the summer to get out of Rutgers precalc is another option.

Expository Writing is the highest English course you could be placed into. Unless you place out with AP scores, it’s mandatory for all freshmen at Rutgers. Regarding Calc, you need a good AP score to place out of Calc I. I’m not sure how your placing into Pre-Calc will affect that.

AP credit supercedes placement test scores, so if you get a 4/5 on AP Calc AB, you get credit for Calc 1 and start in Calc 2 as long as you accept the AP credit. If for some reason you choose not to take the credit, then you would have to start in the class you placed into, namely Precalc.

The math department does not make exceptions or allow for retaking the placement test. What you can do is take a proficiency exam, which is like taking just the final exam for a math class. If you get a certain grade, then for prerequisite purposes it is the same as if you passed the class. More info on that here.
