Rutgers to American university transfer?

Hi so I want to transfer to AU in Washington DC but I have an extremely low gpa right now at Rutgers University. It’s a 2.96 (I was going through a lot freshman year ) so my GPA is really well below what I think is average at AU. I’m looking to transfer mid way sophomore year and I just want to know what are my chances? I was accepted to AU’s school of business during high school because my highschool gpa was high and I had a lot of extra curriculars. I’m wondering if with this gpa would I be accepted again as a transfer ?

Why did you choose Rutgers over AU?

What has changed in your life to make you suddenly prefer AU now?

Don’t try to transfer till spring sophomore year to repair that GPA. Get involved on campus.
Are your parents ok with/paying full price for 2 years?

I am also transferring to AU. However, I am transferring this fall and from a community college.

I agree with the above comments… Definitely work on your GPA. Two of my community college friends also got accepted to AU as transfer students but both of them had 4.0 GPA’s. Thus, try to raise your GPA.

Also, I’d recommend working on extracurricular activities (if you haven’t already). In my opinion, those really help.

Make sure to show your interest - AU is known to care about the demonstrated interest. If you can, take a tour or attend one of AU’s events.

Not sure if you need this info but… From my experience, AU is pretty good when it comes to financial aid. My friend got around $15,000/year need-based financial aid. All three of us got $10,000 scholarship just for being Phi Theta Kappa members. Although AU does not offer a lot of scholarships or financial aid to transfer students, it does offer some. If you don’t mind getting a job, DC is known for its many opportunities.

Good luck with your application process!

Hey so I’m actually going to AU this fall but before I knew I was in, I talked to someone in admissions about what it takes to transfer. If they’ve already let you in before, if you can get your GPA to a 3.3, it’d be highly unlikely that they wouldn’t take you. This information was from March of 2018.
