Rutgers vs. Baruch honors vs. Binghamton vs. Maryland

Hi,

I want to go to either Rutgers, Baruch honors, Binghamton, or Maryland and get either a major in Information Systems or a Dual Major in Computer Science and Business Management. If anyone can give their opinion as to which school to go to or which way to go for the majors, I would appreciate it.

Cost has to figure in here. Where are you a resident? have you run the net price calculators? what have your parents promised you for each year?

my parents have told me to not worry about cost. I live in Jersey.

I’m not sure what that means, but none these schools is outrageously expensive. Presumably that means that they are willing to spend upto 48K/yr. If not, ask them for a firm number.

I don’t know Baruch College, but the other three are good in your fields of interest. I like UMD the best of these because I know the school and the very high quality of its CS and Business programs. I’ve heard recently of Rutgers’ and Binghamton’s CS programs’ excellence but I don’t know what to think of their Business programs compared to Maryland’s. I think you cannot go wrong with Maryland. My son went there for chemE but I also investigated the school for my D for biophysiology. I was very impressed by both experiences, but like other big publics the u/g has to put him- or herself out to get what he or she needs from the institution. These are places for the self-motivated student. That could be said of many schools, but it’s true of these three.

If having a traditional college experience is important to you, then I’d knock out Baruch which is largely a commuter school. Other than that, see where you get in first and take it from there.
