So I'm going to be a freshman at Poly this year, but this was not my first choice school. Rutgers was my first choice school but I was not accepted in a weird twist of faith. So, I think I'm going to transfer after my first semester at Poly, but before I start my application and get on board with this whole process I wanted to hear other opinions. Btw I am an Mechanical Engineering Major, and in case you were wondering about my hs grades and what not ill sum it up with a couple of numbers.

-2.4 GPA
-1920 on my SAT
780 math
720 critical reading
420 writting [i know its not awesome]
-28 on my ACT
-3 rec letters from a calc 1, physics, and sculpture teacher.
-1 rec letter from a guidance counselor

Thanks for the advice in advance.

It was definitely your high school gpa that was the problem. Rutgers doesn’t use the writing section so your SAT when you applied was considered a 1500 out of 1600. Do well at Poly and you will likely be able to transfer to Rutgers.

I was wondering what engineering school ill be better off at. I’ve heard at Rutgers the try to “weed-out” kids the first year. Though I’ve also heard about that at every engineering school. I just wanted your opinion on if its a smart choice to transfer. Thanks.

Look to see what the colleges you apply to look for from transfer students. Generally, the rule is, they WANT to see your high school transcript (GPA) if you have taken less than x number of credits in college.

Also, Poly and Rutgers are VERRRRRRRRRYYYYYYYY different. Population-wise, location-wise, atmosphere-wise, tuition, diversity, etc. I’d know because I’m from New Jersey and attend Poly. I’m not even ****ed that you want to transfer; it crossed my mind once or twice (Harvey Mudd sounded legit), but honestly, don’t knock it before you try it. Because I can’t imagine myself anywhere else now lol. It’s so comfortable! Go in there, and think positive!!! :)
