Rutgers

Anyone get any updates?

Nothing yet. I can’t remember what they said would be the latest date decisions would go out… April 1st maybe?

I just got an email on Friday inviting me to callback audition and to tour school. According to website, callback weekend was supposed to be in early March so I’m a little confused. I auditioned at Unifieds in Chicago. Anyone else know if they had callbacks in early March or if offers have been made?

My daughter got the same letter yesterday, asking her to come back to campus to audition and sit in on classes. (Her original audition was during the Unifieds in NY; she had a same-day callback, but was not invited in early March.) I know that a spate of acceptances and rejections went out a couple weeks ago. I don’t know if this is another round of callbacks, or if they are building an alternate list, or what.

Wow! Seems like a pretty confusing process Rutgers has had this year. My daughter auditioned at NY Unifieds and didn’t get a callback that day or invited to a callback. She wasn’t accepted to Mason Gross but was to the BA program- non-auditioned. Anyway- seems like they have really stretched out their process! Wonder why they can’t make up their minds!

Rutgers has been one of my top schools so I was very excited to get the email Friday for a callback. I’m just trying to figure out if this is a big callback process - I’m from Wisconsin so I’m trying to figure out cost/timing to get out there for the callback. Given that this is so late in the process, I’m hoping this means I have a serious shot at getting in. Anyone know how many spots total for incoming freshman in the program?

Willshakes: My daughter got the message just before 4 PM Friday, so she telephoned the department and was told to reply to the email-- which she did, but has not heard back, so we have no more information than you do. Also, a hard copy of the letter arrived in the mail today, looking quite like it would be a rejection letter-- in a thin envelope. So it was nice to get the email as an advance warning. I think it’s a small program, but have no idea of the scope of the callbacks. Maybe they are working on their waitlist?

I thought if you lived more than 200 miles from the campus, they would help you financially with the travel costs for the callback. Makes me wonder if they didn’t see what they wanted in the March callback. In any case- congrats and good luck to the both of you!

I also received the same callback e-mail which left me very confused as I have done my callback the same day as my initial audition. I was invited to attend some classes which is impossible cause I am an international student and live very far away. I guess we’ll be hearing from them very soon about their decisions

As an outsider looking in on this process for Gross Mason; I’d be frustrated. It seems very late in the game to be emailing people to come back to the campus for a “callback”.
I wish all of you luck in this very strange process.

My daughter responded to the email last Friday, saying when she could come. But she did not hear back from them today. She has decided to wait a couple of days and then call them (she also called last Friday and was told to email instead.)

Glassharmonica- Personally- I think that is RIDICULOUS! I also believe it’s very unprofessional. I know they only accept about 20 into their program and they have a new head of the department but after callbacks at Unifieds- for some- and a callback weekend- I can’t believe they have to have another callback with different kids. Then- to not answer you back- how frustrating! It’s a great school and a great program so this is very disappointing to say the least. JMHO! :)

It does seem confusing, although I have been on the inside of some institutional behavior that must seem confusing and even dysfunctional viewed from the outside… so will give them benefit of the doubt. I would probably be less sanguine if my daughter did not have a couple of good acceptances, including a program that seems terrific for her. But we are really, really hoping to hear from them.

^ I understand. I just have a low tolerance for poor communication. It’s great that your daughter already has acceptances and doesn’t have to rely on Rutgers and it is nice to find out if you get accepted into their program- but still…

Just checked my online portal. Wait listed

I just got an email saying I was waitlisted. I got an on-site callback but no invitation to anything. Now they are asking people to sit in on classes?? Then why did I get waitlisted if I wasn’t asked to do that? I hope the waitlist doesn’t have like 50 people on it… It said we will know by JUNE 30 if we are in the class… that’s pretty darn late…

Me too, cbraves, but no invitation to a callback

My daughter’s online status still says “pending talent assessment.” She’s not home so I don’t know if she was emailed.

Agree totally.

Although, I have to say: I remain confused and curious. Another day has gone by and no word, after they sent my daughter a letter, by email and postal mail, asking her to get in touch with them as soon as possible, and she did that.
