I looked at princeton reviews stats for this school and their avg sat scores are relatively low but on the us rankings rutgers holds a respectable position. whats your take on this school? good? bad?

Living in New Jersey, I regard Rutgers as basically just a state school. Lots of smart kids who don't want to shell out $30k+ go there but then again so do a lot of dumb kids. You could do a lot worse going to Rutgers but then again you could do a lot better.

One thing that ****es me off though is how Rutgers got one good football win (against Louisville) and all of a sudden everyone in New Jersey acts like they're awesome at football. But that's unrelated.

Rutgers has a very solid reputation. I know many high level employers from the West Coast who go there to recruit students from certain departments. IMO it's a bargain.

I am probably applying to Rutgers too. I heard that it is a state school but its good for people who don't want to be in total debt when they are in medical school.

Rutgers sucks.

General perception in New Jersey is that Rutgers sucks. I've heard that OOS, Rutgers is pretty respected, but I can't comment on that. It really is a bargain though. You'll likely not pay more than 15k/yr total if you're an in-state resident with absolutely no scholarships.

To add to that, the average starting salary at Rutgers is somewhere between 43,000 and 53,800. (25%, 75%) Which makes the average about 48,000 dollars which is actually comparable to a lot of private universities and even ivies! (Cornell's is something like 50k I believe)

In-state it is a joke. If you graduate with a 3.0 UW GPA and an around-average SAT score, then you'll probably get in. Out-of-state I have no idea.
