I don’t understand why brown put so much emphasis on African American Issue. Opening convocation, news on the official website, African American culture week etc. I mean diversity is great, and obviously there are a LOT of EXCELLENT African Americans who are making the world a better place. But I feel the leader of Brown Community has tip the balance too much.

Fascinating…

Please elaborate

Hmmm I see where you are coming from. One might argue that we are “making up” lost time in appreciating people of color namely people of African descent. Also one might say the people in the media and culture departments are putting too much emphasis on it (Ruth Simmons doesn’t have all the time in the world to make media on African culture, she has an entire university to run) because they look up to President Simmons (but then again the students at Dartmouth aren’t blasting Asian culture everywhere, to my knowledge).

Then again maybe it’s just a nice surge of appreciation that will subside soon enough. President Simmons is a really cool person. She sat down at my table at TWW when I went to Brown Monday through Wednesday. She is like a super heroine in my opinion and I have more respect for her than the guy who invented donuts. So I don’t know it’s hard to say she’s out of balance in anything. What do you think?
