Just now in the St. Louis game. Let's see how he does. I think he's the first Ivy League QB to throw in a regular season NFL game and he probably did really well on the Wonderlic test (an NFL IQ test).

There have been a lot of Ivy League QB's playing in the NFL over the years. If you are referring to just this year, Jay Fiedler (Dartmouth) surely threw a few for the Jets this year (and several years before w/ the Dolphins) before getting injured...

o eng_dude... good point.... guess I misheard the NFL announcers (or they said something stupid).

Not bad so far Ryan F.

TD!

Ryan Fitzpatrick passed to Torry Holt to the right for 19 yard gain (Jeff Wilkins made PAT)

"he probably did really well on the Wonderlic test "

I just looked him up on Wikipedia, and he got a 38/50 on the test, and had the distinction of the fastest finish in NFL history (used only 9 of 12 minutes allotted).

Solid solid ending

310 Yards passing
3 Touchdowns
1 Interception
63.3% completion rate

only thing that would worry me is the 5 sacks he took. He'll end up like Marc Bulger and Jamie Martin if he keeps taking all those hits.

Pretty impressive day for a rookie in the 7th round

ok i pay attention to ivy news but not this much lol. i cant name a single ivy sports star at all. not that there arn't any, i just dont care that much about ivies to know about them. a bunch of people here know the adcoms names etc. i know nothing, all i know is that i want to go there. lol (i know about stuff like what its like going to school there and whether its a match, but first names of people like that? i have no clue.)

6' 5" 290 lb Nic Sobic, of Catholic Memorial, Franklin, WI.

shark_bite.... it's not that I pay attention to ivy news... it's that I'm a football crack addict and I need to know everything there is to know about it! I just happened to remember that back in the draft, the St. Louis Rams took Ryan Fitzpatrick in the 7th round (last round) and it was interesting. That memory popped into my head when I heard that the starting quarterback got hurt because I knew that Fitzpatrick was next in line!

skierdude, being a football addict is understandable, being an ivy addict isnt lol. come to think about it, i am pretty addicted to this website, is that the same?

Fitzpatrick is just the second Harvard quarterback to play in the NFL, and the first since Al Miller '27 played for the Boston Braves in 1929.

There is a great video clip of an interview with Firzpatrick on the ESPN site at the moment. Typically, it mentions the Rams once, and Harvard nine times!

Fitzpatrick allows that "Harvard opens doors for you", and says that if football hadn't worked out, he would have utilized his Economics degree back at the hedge fund where he interned last year.

great, now harvard is even more attractive. oh well, i guess competition is gonna be tough as always.

Only 30 recruiting slots for the football team, however ... not to worry!

ha! thats why you play the O or D line in football if you want to get recruited... you are up for much less competition VS QB

With a little luck, he can begin to reach the levels that John Elway has blazed.

Unlike Elway, he has an economics degree from Harvard, and a job with a hedge firm to fall back on!

Elway, with his economics degree from Stanford, could only follow the cliche jock path to ownership of car dealerships.

ouch Byerly those are some pretty harsh words for Stanford. Although I must say that a Harvard degree goes a lot further than a Stanford degree.

No insult to Stanford intended whatsoever. Its an outstanding school.

Elway, on the other hand, just took the easy jockish path to "business success" with cushy franchises that were awarded to him. No heavy lifting.

The life of the easily-admitted Harvard grade-inflated athlete isn't "heavy lifting" by any means.

Whoa whoa whoa... Fitzpatrick playing like Elway? Easy there fellas. Any QB in the St. Louis team will propser - they throw the ball non stop and the WRs are nasty. That's not the point, I think it's real great to see a Harvard QB in the NFL. Byerly, I don't think you can compare Fitz to that guy in the 20s... the guy in the 20s faced significantly less competition, there were racist rules against minorities playing, and the QB position wasn't as developed as it is today. But ya, I'm impressed with Harvard by this.

I'm not "comparing" him to Miller at all... just saying that the last Harvard QB to play in the NFL was a helluva long time ago!
