a good friend of my S got into the HTC this week as well. Congrats!

Simba, congratulations to your son, you and your family!!!! Now let me pull up all those posts where you were eagerly waiting and wondering if this would happen to you too!!

Congratulations, Simba and son!

kdos - maybe you can send me a PM with the particulars..

I just logged on with the hope of reading some good news. Can't spend all my time arguing with Mini! :)

Simba, that is wonderful. Rice is such a great school. I am sure you heard that it is ultra-conservative and politically to the right of Cheney. Oh well, that last part is a cruel joke, but I could not resist. Teasing set aside, I am thrilled for you and your family.

Dig, that sounds like a marriage in heaven. Congratulations!

Congrats Simba and family. You can release that deep breath now...

Simba, Rice as a great young Republican club. I suspect we will soon read about how your son has become its President. Right!

Simba,

How very wonderful and exciting for your son!! Congratulations for his getting the fat envelope from such a fine school!!!! All the best for a happy and successful college career! ~berurah

Simba: Wait a minute!!! I just noticed that you're from Houston. I know Rice is a (capital-G) Great school, but so close to home....?

Simba, don't listen to this kind of thing. Several of us have kids at schools close to home and it is just fine. They are not drooling, or going back to training wheels, or God forbid bringing their laundry home. They are happy college students communicating no more and no less with their parents than anyone else, learning just as much in class, and going to no more and no less parties than anyone else.

Rice Rocks! Congrats Simba, and to your son!

Thanks to you all. We are not as close to Marite and her son (we have to drive 25 miles in Houston traffic), but he has given us a list of visitation rules.

Simba, isn't you son also waiting for other schools? Or are you done?

Simba :

Cognates! Your son is also a republican (Is this a new Indian phenomenon?)

achat: yes we are waiting from other schools namely Stanford and Princeton.

parentny: what made you think I am an Indian Republican !! Based on my small survey the only Indian Republicans are Medical Doctors.

Simba - I'm rotfl!! This reminds me of the posts we had in the Parents Cafe where we talked about our (unfounded) preconceptions about each other. Actually, wasn't Simba (in The Lion King) African??? Are you an African-American Republican MD practicing in India? ROTFL.

DD just got the fat envelope to Rice as well, along with Trustee Distinguished Scholarship and Rice Scholar to the tune of $18K a year in merit money. Even better, she sounds excited about it. DD is from Wyoming by the way.

bandit_TX is her name Lindsey?.....I have a bet with her. I had told her that she would get in to Rice, and if I win she has to eat two scoops of Ice Cream.

That's my baby girl.

Bandit_Tx,
Congratulations on your DD's achievements.

If it wouldnt' be too personal, please post or PM me with your daughter's stats and ECs. My S is planning to apply to Rice next year, and I'm trying to learn what would make him competitive for merit $, something he'd need to go there.

What other colleges is your DD considering?

bandit_TX congratulations to your daughter and you!
