S and D differences at move in - stuff

We had the “TV twins” in our dorm. These two were either in class or in the TV lounge. The whole dorm had just 2, and one was for smokers. Like what the twins watched or don’t watch. There were times I could see the advantage to a personal TV in my room.

I loved my Lanz nightgowns. You can still buy them at VermountCountryStore.com - not sure if they’re as nice as they were in the 80’s!

I too had a trunk and huge typewriter, plus a bulky electric blanket, a trifold makeup mirror (with the switch to change the lighting-daylight, fluorescent etc! Remember those?) a popcorn popper, a hot pot, an ANSWERING MACHINE, and a bulky portable tv complete with a handle and rabbit ears. I would guess that 90% of the tops I brought had linebacker sized shoulder pads LOL

My Ds is going with the minimalist approach. I’m the one “forcing” stuff for him to take (lamp, fan). He’s going to be moved in quickly. He is taking one folding chair and has a common room, so I guess that’s his contribution. Ipod for tunes, and laptop for any tv watching. I’m sure the “stuff” will grow over the year.

At my son’s college, most of the rooms are arranged in suites with tiny bedrooms with a bed and desk (or two of each), and an entirely unfurnished common room. So everybody buys or scrounges some furniture. Fortunately, Ikea has some very cheap stuff.

I thought that S would eliminate some stuff for his second year but it didn’t happen. Instead, he took his middle amp instead of the small one and added an acoustic guitar to the bass. He doesn’t watch much tv but does play video games so the tv is necessary (also might need the DVD player for his film studies class). After nearly a lifetime of wearing only jeans and teeshirts to school, he had a full suitcase of button down plaid shirts when he went back. (not complaining about that–it’s nice to see him dress better) He used his roommate’s printer last year but took his own this year because he knows that one of his profs assigns frequent one page papers with little notice. This year’s room seemed to be a little bit longer but narrower.
