S wants to apply EA1 to WPI but...

He had a rough 2nd semester his junior year. One class was a C+, the others were better. Because of this he wants to show his senior year 1st semester grades for EA1. The problem is the cutoff for EA1- application 11/10; GC and rec info 11/15. His grading period ends 11/10 and the GC doesn't think they'll be able to get everything in before 11/15.

So here's the question- should he apply anyway and show junior year grades with a note from the counselor stating that his senior year grades are better? Or should he just wait for EA2 with a cutoff 1/1?

WPI is his #1 choice. We've visited twice- once while school was in session and once during the summer. The second visit cemented WPI into #1.

I'd appreciate any thoughts, ideas or suggestions on this. Son's stats are:

GPA 3.4
rank top 28%
taking 4 APs senior year- CALC, Physics, History, Amer. Lit
Has completed 5 AP classes already
Working as a field Engineer for a software development company
SAT- 1940
ACT- 31

bump… just looking for some friendly advice. Oh, his SAT scores are just CR/M.

He needs to wait for EA2. He would be taking a great risk in applying EA1 (and possibly being denied) because the school should be using the grades they receive.

A 1940 can’t be CR/M (that would be out of 1600).

I am pretty familiar with WPI and it is my daughter’s #1 choice as well. I would go with your gut. She is applying EA1 so we canhave some peace at the holidays knowing she is all set with her #1 and it will take the pressure off when she applies to her other 7 schools.

Knowing what I know…and I know quite a bit…I would let him apply and get some peace at the holidays.

Best of luck to him!

btw husband went there and got a great education and is now a VP of mechanical engineering!
