S1. S2. D1. D2. Ds. Dd.

It freaks me out when parents use these abbreviations on College Confidential. So dehumanizing, I guess; I find it really strange. Like your child is a robot model . . .

Anyone else?

So z doesn't want to be referred to as D or S?

D1 and D2 are robot models....didn't you get the memo? Back in the early 1990's we were all offered the opportunity to obtain them......such a deal!!

"So z doesn't want to be referred to as D or S?"

Si, senora.

Son is only two more letters than "S."

Let's not get lazy, people.

It also slightly bothers me. :x

I don't even know what Ds and Dd means.

I personally wouldn't mind if parents put their kids' names. It makes me feel more connected to them, if that makes sense.

Well, you see, there's so few Ashleys and Sallies and Jims out there that it'd be really easy to track them down if you knew their first names.

Seriously, guys, get a grip. No one can find out any information about your child if you post their first name.

It bothers me when parents use those stupid abbreviations. How hard is it to say "my son" or "my daughter" instead of DD1 and DD4 or whatever? And why is it Dear Daughter or Darling Son or whatever? Son is 3 letters, y'all don't need to shorten it to 2, sheesh.

haha imagine if we started calling our parents DM1, DD2, DM2, etc...some kids have 2 sets of mommies and daddies, you know.

You forgot SWIM.

What's SWIM?

It just drives me nuts when parents use these abbreviations, like they're talking about a Blackberry or mp3 player.

It was used in this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-life/635707-alcohol-violation.html?highlight=SWIM#post1061643100

...thought it meant "son which I miss", but nvm.

Wow......lol

I didn't know DD and DS mean Dear Daughter and Darling Son. What does DD1 and DD2 mean? ...like first and second?

As a son, it bothers me as well that the parents on here do that crap. It's just ... creepy ...

The parents section in general is ridiculous. It's no wonder why their children are probably smoking pot in their rooms without their parents' knowledge. Seriously, back out of their lives a bit. Space will do good justice. You don't need to post on a site and pressure your child more. They know what is expected of him/her.

Haha. And when parents talk about college experience from their child's point of view, that freaks me out, too.

Yeah, DS1 finds the social scene at Faber College to be quite stimulating; he loves the dining options, too, but wishes the sandwiches came with more french fries. Whereas S2 thinks the number of fries is perfect, but isn't entirely satisfied with his Humanities professor. But his Physics professor is hilarious. R2D2 is just unhappy with Faber overall.

^Hahaha, yeah. If DS1 is anything like most youth, he only tells parents some things. In general, the rents are going to get a narrow view of what actually happens at college. For instance, I don't think I'd ever tell my parents that a common weekend pastime is rooftopping. At least, I doubt I'll want to give my parents a detailed account of every day when I get to college.

I would like to see some more parental insight here.

Lmao....someone finally pointed this out. It's been irritating me since I first got to this site.

Somebody brings it up every couple months or so.

Anyway, why do you care so much if they use "D1" or "D2" or "DS" or "DD"? Welcome to the internet. I really don't see anything unusual or weird about it; it's just a CC quirk.
