Apply ED to a clear first choice school. Need for financial aid should not inhibit applying ED as ED is not binding if aid offered is insufficient.

However, if one needs very substantial financial aid, then best not to apply ED to any school which does not meet full need.

ED is too powerful to be ignored in today’s ultra-competitive admissions environment. Just do research & use the ED option wisely.

We won’t be applying for FA. Will be full pay. Merit would be nice but not something that has to be.
