If you don’t want scary driving places, stay away from the DC beltway and NYC.

Have driven in both NYC and DC. Not a problem.

It’s the coastal cliff highways of CA I said was the issue. ?

And since S is one applying it will be what he ultimately wants. I can deal with whatever is necessary.

FYI - the Claremont McKenna College consortium is inland and not really near any coastal highways. Unless your student is applying to colleges like Pepperdine, UC Santa Barbara, UC San Diego and the like, you should be ok here as CA is a very big state
