Can share a bit why S1 chose LC and S2 Rose Hill? I am interested in learning of the ‘vibes’ of each campus and the types of activities Res.Life has to keep students engages ON campus.

Thanks and congrats to your son for applying!

Congrats Sandkmom! Sending hopeful wishes that he gets in. Does having a sibling there help, do you think?
My niece wants to go to LC, every time she visits, she just loves it more. They already know she has a cousin who goes to LC. We were wondering if that will help her.

S1 is a Theatre major which is only offered at LC but he would choose being in Manhattan over a traditional or borough campus anyway. Campus vibe is artsy, independent students who generally look for their own fun in the city rather than participate in campus activities.

S2 wants to be a marine. Most if not all of the ROTC kids are at RH. Also he prefers a traditional campus and experience and will participate in campus activities particularly sports related. I don’t think S1 even knows Fordham has sports!

I do think there is some weight given to family members who have also attended and they even ask about it on the application so hopefully that helps your niece.

Hope your D is doing well. Hard to believe my S has registered for classes for the last time! It just flies by! One more payment and I’m done…until I start paying for S2 wherever he ends up! :)

Just adding that I do know family siblings who have both attended and also a sibling who was rejected so I think having family who attended won’t make admission a certainty by any stretch but it’s probably a check in the “pro” column!

I hope it helps her, she really loves LC. My niece introduced herself to a professor last time and mentioned her cousin, and then at the luncheon she attended last week, the same prof was there, remembered her, and remembered who her cousin was. I imagine that’s helpful.
She’s only a junior, so she has time until she applies.

Wow, your son is graduating already! These years go soooo fast!
My daughter is doing great!!
She has an internship at a small off-Broadway theater that she goes to three days a week. Sitting in on budget meetings, researching info for programs, working the lights and the soundboard at one of their shows… learning so much and loving every minute of it.
She also was very involved in a book that was just released this week, The Untold Stories of Broadway. Was at the book release party at Sardis this week. And is helping to run the book signing event on Saturday. She was the lead intern, she transcribed interviews, researched whatever the author needed, helped conduct one interview and proofread it three times for Broadway accuracy.

Loves her classes, every class is in her major or minor, no core classes this year.

Writing for the school newspaper.

Working in the Fordham Box office and the costume shop.

And her work/study job.

She is so busy she has no time to breathe, but she loves it.

Hi sandkmom! I’ve missed seeing you on CC. My daughter had her first play produced this week and we went up to see it. I’m so grateful to you and your S1 for cluing is in, via CC, to this wonderful program, which has turned out to be the perfect place for my daughter.

I’m SO glad that your D is loving the program! I have thought of her often over the last year and kept meaning to reach out…we’re still putting things back together after Sandy and managing this process has been a bit overwhelming. But HUGE CONGRATS to C on her first production! I bet it was awesome–I know how talented she is!

And LeftyLou…
Your D’s life sounds AMAZING! What fabulous opportunities both in and out of school!

I would have thought we’d be all put back together, too! But we are getting closer. I expect that everything will be finished by graduation including the landscaping. Then it is my goal to NOT spend any more money on this house. AT ALL.

As for the Theatre major, he hopes to make a living writing and performing and he’s got a few projects going. His career isn’t going to take the 9-5 path but several people in the business have indicated that he will find work. It’s going to be interesting to see what comes up!

Thanks for your good wishes, SandKmom! I attended 3 of my daughter’s 4 shows last week and was incredibly impressed by the quality of the direction, acting, design, etc., and how well Fordham supports its student playwrights.

Congrats to the newly accepted Class of 2018! :)

S2 got his Fordham decision today…waitlisted. We knew it was a reach and while we LOVE LOVE LOVE Fordham for S1 who has less than 2 months to go, it wasn’t a favorite for S2 given his stats (GPA 86.17/100, ACT 26) would put him in the bottom of the class. He will not be accepting a spot on the waitlist.

Fordham was the last school we were waiting for. He got in everywhere else he applied and I expect he’ll make a decision shortly after the Marquette open house in two weeks which will be our last admitted student visit.

Can’t wait for all of this to be over! If I hear “Does he have a job?” referring to S1 or “Where is he going?” referring to S2 one more time…

Rats! I’m so disappointed that S2 won’t be coming to Fordham. But it sounds like he has a lot of terrific choices that he prefers over Fordham anyway. I have four kids and none of them were remotely interested in attending the same school. In the end, that’s given my a very interesting and rich glimpse of contemporary American colleges and college life.

So sorry about that Sandkmom. Ive heard similar stories about siblings at Fordham. Its not a factor anymore, like it was 20 yeas ago. Marquette is awesome and he will be fine there. Always a silver lining to every cloud and a hidden agenda from the Good Lord. My particular kudos to S2 on wanting to be a marine and serve his country. Bravo!
