Sabermetrics 101!?!?! If anyone knows what I'm talking about, please comment!

O.K. I'm a rising high school senior and my college list was set UNTIL I found searching the Web that Tuufts offers a class in Sabermetrics (the anlytical/objective study of baseball statistics) or at least it did last year!

The reading for the class was "Moneyball"!!!!!!!

Please anyone who knows about this class (current student) or anyone else interested in this particular class please comment, and let me know what you think. Who is the professor? Is this class offered just at Tufts?

Ive been into sabermetrics (and scouting, im not as big a stathead as most sabermetricians or w/e) since the pre-moneyball era, and I cant believe this is happening, a class on sabermetrics... OMG.

All that remains to be asked is...can I freaking get into Tufts?

what are your stats?

Hey jdelavalle,

My roomie from last year took the class, he was a baseball nut and loved the class. I on the other hand took a class with Prof. Sol Gittleman on American Baseball in 20th Century. Both classes are quite a bit of work and require interestest in the subject matter.

On the sabermetrics class, I know it was very technical and very math driven. Additionally, they had a number of guest speakers from the Red Loosers organization.

Cheers!

Vlad

Thank you Burantino, yeah I would expect a bunch of Red Sox execs to attend the class since they are probably the most statistically oriented team in baseball.

Awesome... I think my stats are a little off from most people at Tufts, I'm not sure...

My friend, I don't want to dampen your enthusiasm or anything, but you should maybe reflect on the wisdom of deciding the next four years of your life based on one class.

Well I was thinking Boston anyway (im applying to BC), and I plan to major in Economics and IR which seem to be Tufts strong suits... and its not just a class, its a chance to make strong connections (even if its with the BoSox organization) maybe internships, and you never know... maybe a career in baseball, and will become the greatest dissappointment my family has ever seen, lol.

It seems to be a great school, I just had never considered it.
