SAC STATE OR CC ?! HELP please

HI! I hope at least one person comes across this because any advice/help is very much appreciated!
OVERALL, i am stuck between choosing to go to sac state or my local community college. I would like to attend sac state because it is kind of the only good school i got into, compared to others. The biggest thing i fear is that i would (hopefully not thought) drop out from there. REASON WHY is because i did not place so great on my placements test for it. I would have to take remedial classes in both english and math, which is an Early Start program i belive, so ill have to pay for classes that i wont even get college credit for, and THE OTHER REASON is im afraid i wont get a dorm :o applications have been open since March and its mid April… and ive heard stories where people couldnt go cause they did not have a place to live. I also cant get an important because i would not be able to commute nor pay for it i think.
Now as for the community college. I would begin taking a statistics math class ( apparently i qualify to take it since i got a B in trig junior year) and i would also take English 1A which are both transferable credits and AA accountable. JUST THAT everyone complains about my local cc, they say on one ever transfers, or they take 2+ years to tansfer, they say they rarely have the courses you need for some majors in order to transfer. HOWEVER what is good about this cc is that high school seniors get priority registration!!! and i also got a presidential scholarship that claims that i get to go to this cc for free fro 2 years.

SO this leaves me undecided. Do I go to my local cc (where eeryone says its basically high school all over again) or go to sac state, where btw, i have not even visited because all the dates i was able to go where all full. ugh. i know the desicion is up to me but i would GLADLY love to hear what you all have to say.

CC (you can attend more than 1) sounds like a better plan since it sounds like you might not be able to pay for housing at Sac State. Most students take 2 or 3 years at CCs to transfer – depends on the major.

You should still try to visit Sac State anyway.

I graduated from Sac State a LONG time ago, came in as a CC transfer and still live/work in the area. I am also a parent of a kid at Chico state and a Jr in high school.

Call Sac State Housing and see if there is a spot. If not, I bet there is a waiting list. If not, Sacramento is a bigish city, there are lots of place to live other than the dorms. Here are 2

There are also plenty of apartments - on University and La Riviera drives.

On the remedial coursework, most of the CSUs have an early start program like Sac State’s. They get you on campus a month or more before the start of the school year and focus filling academic gaps. All college courses assume a base understanding of English and math. When you sat for the SAT and again for the Sac State placement tests, you didn’t demonstrate the proficiency they would like to see. That doesn’t mean you are stupid, it means you haven’t learned something important yet. I have a vague recollection that something like half of the incoming freshmen at Sac State are in the same boat.

Wherever you go, I would suggest you find a way to fill that knowledge gap. If you don’t understand at that level, you will struggle with the material in seemingly unrelated classes like Poly Sci, Econ and Finance.

I strongly suggest you find a way to visit Sac State this week and see if it is someplace you want to study. If yes, then sign up. If no, then CC it is.

Good luck

Go to the CC! You can get classes for cheaper and it will be much easier to get classes. I live in Sac and I hear it is pretty hard to get classes at CSUS whereas I attend the local CC & get into classes fine. If your heart isn’t into Sac State, don’t go just to leave. Go to a CC, get awesome grades, join clubs, get a job and save that money for once you transfer, apply to your dream school and get in. A CC is like a second chance. Don’t rush into going to a university. You have time! It may be like high school again (I’m there right now) but you definitely meet some cool people and get to reap the benefits of smaller classrooms and getting to know your professors better. CC is not a bad choice!

Also, I took 4 years to transfer. Don’t feel singled out if you don’t transfer in two. You’re amazing if you transfer in two! I’m an engineering major.

thank you all for your replies! I have best decided to attend my local CC because i get priority registration & a scholarship to allows me to take my classes for free and text books :)!
