sack up. boots.

Ok I'm sorry for sounding really dumb here, but I can't even tell what number my Hot Weather Bellevilles are (390, 790, etc.). I got them from clothing and sales at Fort Hood but they look different than the picture of the 790s in the link on the previous page. The layers are visible and there is no Bellville logo on the back. I checked inside the boots, on the box, and on the tag, but still can't find the number. Anyone have similar boots or know what I'm talking about??

the hot weathers are 390, cold weather are 790

So the only hot weather boots that Belleville makes are athe 390's? Then there shouldn't be a problem, right? Since Belleville is listed as one of the approved manufacturers on the boot letter? I mean that would make sense but since there are little differences, like the layers, how are we supposed to know? Is it possible that some 390's are ok and some are not?

i havent seen different kinds of 390s. if there were different ones then theyd give them a different model number.

BU09WP10:
It sounds as if you have the issue boots. According to the manufacturer, the AAFES stores, and the AAFES catalogue the Belleville 390s (hot weather) and 790s (temperate weather) are commercial boots which candidate cadets are not authorized to wear. Since the army apparantly issues the 390s, mrgreenapple believes that they are "issue" boots. Confusing I agree.

"the Belleville 390s (hot weather) and 790s (temperate weather) are commercial boots which candidate cadets are not authorized to wear"

So there are no Bellevilles that we're authorized to wear? That doesn't make a lot of sense to me since Belleville was specifically mentioned in the boot letter. Or do you mean that there's a different model of Bellevilles we should be looking for?

Sorry for the confusion.

Issue boots are made to DoD specifications and are apparantly all identical regardless of the manufacturer. There are a number of manufacturers that are contracted to make issue boots, and yes Belleville is one of them. There is no model number just an AAFES catalogue number.

ooh ok thank you so much!

I went to the px store today at West Point to purchase my boots. Sure enough, the salesperson came out with Belleville 390's (with the logo on the back of the boots). I asked the salesperson if I was allowed to wear them during Beast, and she responded, "Of course. Why would I sell the wrong boots to tens of hundreds incoming cadets?" When I had gone over to the cashier to purchase the boots, she looked at me and said, "I don't think you're allowed to wear these during Beast. Let me check in the back." She then came back and told me that I would be allowed to wear them during Beast.

Hello New expecting West Point Cadets,

My name is SSgt. Larry McCoy and I am your AAFES POC. If you received a memorandum, you will find my contact information in the letter.

I see that there is a lot of confusion as to the proper footwear you should purchase. I'm here today to clarify this.

As a new cadet, you are only authorized to wear the Issue Tan boots and Issue Oxford leather Low quarters. You are NOT AUTHORIZED, I repeat NOT AUTHORIZED to purchase the commercial footwear. If you show up on "D" Day with the commercial style boot, they will be taken and you will be issue the Issue style boot.

I do apologize for any of my store managers/sales consultants giving you misinformation. I am the official word for this and if you have any further questions please don't hesitate to contact me personally at 214-312-2610.

Save yourself a lot of headache and purchase the Issue shoe as stated in your memorandum, expect nothing else. Remember, you will be held accountable for purchasing the incorrect footwear not the person who sold them to you!

Bzzzt, left a very good message for you guys to follow:
OK....You all have to wear issued items for plebe year. I showed up to beast with a nice pair of coccoran boots...and they went into the trunk room for the rest of the year. If you show up with the wrong boots, you will be issued the correct ones and you will not be allowed to wear the other ones. This is fairly similar to basic training.

As for soaking them, soaking your boots to help break them in applied to the all leather ones. My Marine buddies told me to shower in mine and then walk around until they were dry. Since these aren't all leather I would not suggest trying this.

Edge dressing - They may be talking about applying it directly to the leather, but I've never had edge dressing do anything to the edges of my shoes other than make them black and shiny, like it's supposed to. This is ONLY for your low quarters, don't edge dress your desert boots.

whats the visual difference?

The difference is none of you have the right boots. I went through a heck of a time finding an issue Hot Weather, and the Temperate I have is clearly commercial. Even West Point, I understand has been selling the wrong boots so most of us have been on a wild boot chase. I think those of us who went to ebay had better luck.

The good news is there really is no "breaking in" to these boots. The low quarters are trouble, but the tan ACU boots are like tennis shoes as far as I can tell (in feel NOT looks) and quite heavier. The only thing to really "break in" for me is the leather tongue on the Temperate shoes (its pretty hard at the beginning, not to mention my Temperates are commerical and I can't wear them anyhow...)

Is all of West Point like this? Hahah, what fun:)...?...!

Thanks for clearing that up SSgt. McCoy. It's pretty funny how when I asked the sales representative if I was allowed to wear them (since they had the inscription Belleville on the back) she looked at me like I was an idiot and told me that she has been dealing with tens of hundreds of incoming cadets and that she was positive I would be allowed to wear them during Beast. Oh well. I took the tags off the Bellevilles so I guess I'll use them sometime in the future. But now I have to make another trip up to the West Point px store to purchase new boots so I can break them in before Beast :p I'm loving West Point already ;)

my altimas have no markings on the outside and you can see the layers or whatever...

Welcome to West Point. :) And don't get rid of the boots, you'll be able to wear them eventually.

Once again I do apologize for my sales counsultant, I will make sure to clarify this misconception with them. Until then, Good Luck to you all, Hooah!

Thank you SSgt. Larry McCoy.

"whats the visual difference?"

Very little from what I can see.

Issue boots do not have a brand name on them
Issue boots have a 3 layer sole construction which is visible
Issue boots have 2 air/drainage holes on the medial side of the boot
The Condura/leather design is slightly different

Lol-- I'm still a little confused. Does someone have a link to a pic of the low quarters we're supposed to wear when we first arrive? I have this ugly feeling that I got the wrong type.....

Oops sorry - I initially posted a link to the issue boots. I don't have a link to the low quarters.

just get bates, they are standard low quarters
