So I’m torn between which of these schools to choose from considering the fact they both weren’t my first choice. I originally wanted to go to sjsu but didn’t meet the requirements for the nursing major and was denied. I live pretty close to Sac (only a 45 minute drive). Sf was a last minute school I applied too. I didn’t realize that both schools were known for being commuter schools. I planned to live on campus. I don’t know which school to accept because I heard both don’t have much school spirit and I’m afraid I won’t get the college experience I was hoping for. Can anyone who’s been or currently attends either of these schools tell me if they’d recommend it and what’s it like. Also should I just go to my local community college then try to transfer after?
i live in SF and i’ve visited both. SFSU is next to a shopping mall and the public transportation is really good here so you won’t need a car! both campuses are really nice, but pretty dead on the weekends since they’re commuter schools. SF is generally a more exciting city though so you’ll probably never be bored. try to visit the two campuses while school is still in session so you can see what they’re truly like! also make sure to look up how easy it is to transfer/get into the nursing major at each school. best of luck to you!
SFSU has plenty of people living on campus though. And SF is wayyyy more exciting than sacramento, so you can definitely enjoy yourself there.
Both are good schools for Nursing and both are very livable cities, so I would focus less on where you are going to live
than on what the qualities of the individual programs are.
Are you direct admit at either?
What requirements does it take to convert a pre-major to a major?
How many students do successful conversions each year? How many don’t convert?
What are their pass rates for NCLEX-RN?
Since you’ll probably need to move off campus after your freshman year, note that housing is more expensive in SF than Sac. You’ll also likely need to live further away from campus to find affordable housing in SF.
Both schools will have ample practicum opportunities.
A little late now but, between the 2, i think the academics are pretty comparable. When it comes to college experience, - the fact that there is so much to do in SF and the housing being so expensive probably keeps people off campus. Sac has a football team - an athletic rival in UCD and an active fraternity/sorority scene If you want to live the college life Sac is probably the better choice.
I would add that living in SF is much higher than Sac. Something to consider
