Sacramento State v. Cal Poly SLO

I have been accepted to both Sacramento and Cal Poly SLO as a Fall 2016 transfer student and I’m happy and excited for both! However I need to make a decision and I’m trying to weigh the pros and cons of each school in order to ultimately make a decision. I am a business major with concentration in accounting and I’m also wanting to minor in Recreation, Parks & Tourism Administration.

With that being said, Cal Poly SLO is a great and competitive school and I’ve always could see myself going there even when I was in high school. Their business program is highly regarded and I’ve heard the graduates are sought after by many employers. However, Sacramento State has a great business honors program (which would be great with my major) and not to mention it is located in the capital of California and there are many many business opportunities there. Also I’ve toured both of the campuses and I like them both and I could picture myself there! My main concern is if I go to Cal Poly SLO I would be missing many chances for internships. On the other hand, my concern is if I go to Sacramento State, I would be missing a more desirable education than that from Cal Poly? I welcome any and ALL opinions of both schools! Which would you chose and why? What are some things you’ve heard about from either one or both of the schools?

Unless SLO is going to put you in debt, I would say SLO is probably a better choice. It is much more residential and will give you more of the classic college experience. It also has a better reputation with employers. Sac is fine… (I have a BS and MBA from there) SLO is better; which is especially important as you begin your career. You may have to head to the Bay Area for a summer internship but, that ain’t so bad.

Thank you!!
