Sacrifice SAT 2 for SAT 1?

How does everyone think? My friend s gonna take SAT 1 this Saturday but he s unlike to reach his desired score, which is 2200+. He already registered SAT 2 on December. If his november score is not good, do you guys think he should change test type and retake SAT 1 in December?

Has “your friend” already taken the SAT once? Has he already taken the SAT subject tests before? Philosophically speaking, “your friend” should take the test when he feels best prepared for it; and not if he is not close to his desired target. Strategically speaking, it would depend on his application deadlines and what tests he still needs to take. If that answer sounds a bit enigmatic, please provide more information about “your friend”'s situation.

He hasnt taken SAT 2, he just took SAT 1 one time and got 1720. He plan to apply ED 2

Are the SAT subject tests required for the university he is applying ED to? ED2 schools like Brandeis or Vanderbilt do not normally require them, in which case it might be better to focus on getting a better SAT Reasoning test score, which needs to be done by the December test date.

P.S. He may also want to consider taking the December 13 sitting of the ACT test with writing in lieu of subject tests, if they accept them. This has a registration deadline of Nov. 7.

I advise him not to take SAT 2 if his schools dont require it, but he said that he has to take it to make up for his low GPA due to extremely heavy curriculum (although he had pretty high rank), im not sure if that statement is true

GPA is relative from school to school. If he has a very high rank, it would indicate that his High School teachers are tougher graders. If they are ranked, than he shouldn’t worry too much about what his GPA at his school is.

If his school does not rank, have him ask his counselor/teachers to mention in their recs that he is indeed a top student with a “heavy curriculum”.

(Assuming that his statement is true.) ;)
