Sad day... Lone Star College Stabbings

14 people confirmed stabbed at Lone Star College in Houston today... so far news is reporting at least 2 in critical condition, no confirmation as to whether the victims are students or staff. The suspect is in custody and is reported to be a student of the university. Please keep the victims in your thoughts and prayers...

Oh my word, that’s awful! I definitely will be praying for the victims and the college community. I’ll be checking the news but please keep us posted, Granipc.

Very scary. Any details of how this occurred?

[Texas student stabs at least 14 at Lone Star College](Texas student accused in stabbing spree at college)

He used an x-acto knife, of all crazy things. Some other students tackled and subdued him. Starting to think I need to just lock my children in the house… :(

If only background checks were run for people buying knives.

If it had been a gun, the outcome would have been much more severe…

Just crazy, I feel terrible for the students & staff.

I agree though, lastminutemom, I’ll definitely take a madman with a knife over a gun. Reminds me of the school attack by a knife-wielding man in China.

If someone else had had a gun, this guy may have been stopped much sooner… before two kids ended up in critical condition.

If THIS guy had a gun, those 14 people and more would likely be dead.

Yes, I agree, glad he didn’t have a gun, would’ve been much much worse, probably more than 14!

Sad story. We need better care for the mentally ill and more respect for and better treatment of people with disabilities.

Well, it looks like everyone will recover. That’s great news. And I agree with Village Mom. If others had been armed, he may not have ever made it to 14 victims. This guy had a fascination with knives…not guns. He was mentally unstable. It just goes to show that you don’t NEED a gun to cause great harm.

Again, thank God everyone will recover.

[Suspect in Lone Star College slashing spree fantasized about killing people, planned attack, police say | Fox News](http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/04/10/at-least-14-reportedly-stabbed-on-lone-star-college-campus/)

The perpetrator was running around madly, stabbing people left and right. If only a student at this college who was armed AND a crack shot had happened upon him, all would have been well. That’s not a silly scenario at all. So let’s not try to assure that people like the perpetrator can’t get assault weapons with high capacity clips, because that would be really silly. Oy, my head hurts.

If only this dude didn’t feel like stabbing people, this would have never happened.

I’ve never seen anyone carry a weapon on their belt buckle, and I’ve lived in Texas for over 45 years.

I’ve also never seen anyone shot, anyone pull a gun on another person, and I’ve never known anyone who shot another person. I’ve never known anyone whose kid was injured by a gun in their home.

I know it happens, from reading the headlines like everyone else…but it never ceases to astound me how some people characterize a WHOLE GIGANTIC STATE as insane based on what they read, or small places within the state, or differing political views or whatever.

I’ve lived here all my life, and all of these things that people are SOOOOO afraid of: guns (oooooo), racism, etc. I just have not seen these things here being any more problematic than they are anywhere else in the country or the world for that matter.

The news reports said that he had been planning it since he was a kid.

As we saw in Aurora, Newtown and Norway if someone is planning out an attack it cannot be stopped except by a stroke of good luck.

If this guy had wanted to get a gun he would have. If he had even gotten a larger blade he would have been killing people. The conclusion is that he probably wasnt as interested in killing as in other goals.

Wonder when we are going to get around to looking at the mental health laws.

yes. sadly people and families don’t pursue help because of a stigma…

yet with chemical imbalance/disease…how is that different than chronic asthma, cancer, etc…

such sad news

Not sure his family didn’t get help.

Some people who attended college with him said his Dad ate lunch with him every day at the school, and he carried around a monkey puppet that he would “talk through” in uncomfortable situations. He had obviously gotten medical care to deal with his hearing issues.

Just because a person is being treated or has been treated does not necessarily always keep this kind of thing from happening.
