Sad Day on the Princeton forum

Oops, Oops. Problems using the same computer. That was not from Kayoshin, but Kayo's mom. Sorry, Kayo.

Sugee, your son will get in somewhere great. Hang in there (I know you are, just I have been following your story in the old forum and wanted to say that). And maybe to Princeton too as he wants.

Achat,

Thank you ! Incidentally it is your son's example that I have talked about a few times to Kayo. Kayo has made Swarthmore his next focus, and has just completed a very nice and convincing esay on 'Why Swarthmore'. In his mind, Swarthmore is mini-Princeton, he thinks he will get the same kind of experience. I am hoping that he might send in his app for Winter-ED. But I am not trying to influence him :-)

Sugee,
The challenge for you will be to have him focus on academics (mid-term grades will be needed) as well as these apps to high selective colleges, as well as Princeton; that is, continuing interest in Princeton. Good luck. I know how tough that is!

"The regulars are getting slaughtered. Most of them are getting deferred with stellar stats."

WIth all due respect, this to be expected for HYP. The data from Avery's study (which he had once posted but removed when people noticed it was there) indicated that the acceptance rate from about 6 years ago (at HYPSM) was in the neighborhood of 35-38% for those applicants with scores from 1500-1599. I would say that the emprical results of the people on the board seem slightly better than that, so it is, in fact, not a slaughter, but a fine collective performance.

I do understand that one takes an individual perspective on this, rather that that of the group. :). Congratulations to the successful candidates. The rest of you need to get busy at those postponed applications. Its a lot easier to do now than on December 28th.

Achat,

Yes, it is all truely challenging. Keeping up with the grades and school work, doing his ECs, and following up on other apps sent - like confirming that they received everything, any additional info as they come in etc. etc. Rutgers and Montclair acceptance received, Boston U and U of Delaware sent, Brandeis and Drexel ready to go, Swarthmore, Columbia, Johns Hopkins and Cooper Union under prep. Just sending everything out will call for a big celeberation. On Dec 31st we will be celeberating more than new year :-)

1moremom -

Acceptances were mailed priority on Friday, I am 90 miles away and recieved the envelope Saturday (much to my surprise)

I'll wager that was the best surprise of your young life! Congrats.
