Thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Fordham student who fell from the bell tower on campus last night. It was reported by local NY media outlets that she passed away today. It’s every parents worst nightmare. She was a senior and set to graduate in May.
Oh no! What a tragedy!
This terrifies me to no end. When i was at Fordham there were tons of very bad decisions made every weekend. One very vivid recollection is one of my husband’s friends hanging by his fingers out of the window of my 13th floor room in Walsh hall. My husband said he and his friends tried climbing Keating but were unable to get to the top. It’s unreal and every parent’s worst nightmare.
It appears that she fell from a staircase inside the tower, rather than from the outside. So tragic.
These stories are so sad to read. One bad decision and lives are changed. I asked my sons to use caution balconies, pools, ocean, drinking unfamiliar surroundings, etc. Sadly, every year on campuses a story like this. Her poor family and friends.
Oh no! As a Fordham alum, this hurts. I saw it posted today on my class FB page, but at the time, it reported she was in serious condition. Six weeks from graduation and a stupid decision ended a promising young life.
@Bronxbaby, I lived on the 13th floor of Walsh too. Can’t imagine anyone hanging out the window. That’s nuts. My worst memory from Walsh was getting stuck in the crowded and only working elevator for 30 minutes on our way to my graduation ceremony. We were worried we were going to miss graduation! They had to pry the doors open while we were part way between floors and climb up a couple of feet to the next floor to get us out.
@4kids4us yes! My mother hated me living up there. The guy who hung out the window was one of my husband’s crazier friends. Other kids died there too-drug OD’s, killed crossing Webster Avenue. Just incredible things! I think back now on the DUMB things I did and fear for my own kids.
That’s funny about your elevator story. I recall times the elevator didnt work and drunkenly trying to make it up all 13 flights!
That is just so sad. Falling 30 feet. I didn’t think she would make it I feel so sorry for her poor parents. It’s just amazing that these young people make such bad decisions that cause them their life. Two weeks ago it was the girl from NJ who got into the wrong car and was murdered. We can’t protect them from poor choices no matter how well we think we have raised them. It’s really scary.

Those are horrifying stories. My heart goes out to the families of the young ladies. I hope the university takes steps to keep the students out of harm. This seems so preventable.
It’s such a typical college thing. I’ve studied at 3 different universities. Each of them had at least one tower that was out of bounds to students, and of course students always want to get up there. When you’re 20, you don’t think about mortality. So sad about this outcome.
This seems so preventable.<<<<<<<<<
It was prevented, the kids circumvented the prevention. It was off limits, and locked.
My prayers go out to the Family and friends of this angel…
